Newbie Questions (Not found in FAQ)

Hello guys. I am getting ready to have my first experience of shrooms and had a couple of questions which I could not seem to find answers to in your FAQ section. First off, you guys say that either 1/8 or 1/2 of 1/8 is good for a first dose. What is 1/8 and is the weight you give me dry weight or wet? Unfortunately, I haven't gotten the shroom yet (I will be hunting for it) so I can't tell you the species. Secondly, I am not sure whether I should trip with a friend or not. I am looking for a <hippie>deep enlightening experience</hippie> and seeing as how this is a personal 'journey' I am not sure whether I would be better off doing it alone or not. Any information would be appreciated.

first you wont find any shrooms by hunting this time of iyear i think. You gotta wait till next fall.
when it said an 8th it meant 3.5g DRY.
Unfortunately, I haven't gotten the shroom yet (I will be hunting for it) so I can't tell you the species.
as an avid mushroom hunter this statement tells me that you havent done enough research to even know what wild psilocybes grow in your area. This is not smart. You need to do some research in our hunting forum. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/postlist.php/Cat/0/Board/Forum3
as for the trip partner, for the first time it is a good thing. Preferably someone experienced, but more importantly it should be someone you trust VERY well.

funkyfishX said: an "1/8" is one eight of an ounce or about 3.5 grams this is referring to a dry dosage amount
start off with the lesser dose and work your way up, maybe even less than half of an 1/8, just to get a foot in the door
do either 2g or one eighth of cubensis. Those are great first time doses.

1/8 refers to 1/8 of an ounce, or about 3.5 grams. Dry.
With your first time it may be best to be with a friend (preferably with experience) just to make sure you stay in line and such. I would reccomend starting with a 1/2 of an 1/8. Any dealer will know what you're talking about if you ask for a half eigth.

You say suimush, "preferably someone experienced, but more importantly it should be someone you trust VERY well." This is a problem because none of friends do drug let alone shrooms so I don't really trust anyone that is part of the stoner club(The only people I know that do drugs do pot). Alos, one more question, I have read that after doing shrooms you will need to sleep for 10 - 15 hours and I have heard some people saying they will take them at 11PM. Does this mean they are high until 7ish and them sleeping till around 5PM?

O.K., I have done some research and found that when I go hunting I want to look for Psilocybe semilanceata. It seems to be the only kind of shroom in season in my area (B.C. Canada).

Another person isnt a necessity, but if you are alone you might want to dose lower. Id say 2g. Just be in a safe comfortable enviroment set/setting are k3y.
The effects range is from 4-6 hours or so. You might feel a little off the next day but nothing too uncomfortable. 15 hours is a little much maybe 8-10 nothing too out of the ordinary.

I'd like to keep up with this thread, I'm quite confident in my knowledge, as I've been reading about mushrooms for the last year or so. However, I have yet to try them, and may have my chance this Friday or later in the weekend. I'll be starting with a single gram, I'm expecting around a level 2, and I think I'll be tripping alone. I'll keep you guys posted on how things go.

So now when you say this you mean 2g dried. Which would mean 18-22g fresh? Also, I think I will be doing Liberty Caps (Psilocybe semilanceata). Would this alter the dose at all?

I also forgot to mention that I am not a very artisitic or creative person so I was hoping to do some drawing or poetry during this experience. Will I be in a state where I will be capible of doing this?

If you're not naturally artistic or creative you will not be in a significantly more creative state while on shrooms... but you'll certainly still be able to to appreciate good music and art.

On 2 grams...yea, definitely.
Personally, I think drawing is a good idea for a mushroom trip for a few reasons. It's a good strategy if you start feeling some anxiety: find a nice comfortable, secluded spot outside somewhere, and just start drawing. It can help restore peace to your mind without actually fighting the trip or resisting what it might show you; more of a way to integrate and flow with the experience. Also, it's pretty entertaining and enlightening (at least for me).
Keep in mind that the trip can last for several hours, so don't plan on doing any one thing for the entirety of it.

If you want an estimated dosage for any various types of mushrooms, including liberty caps check out this calculator http://www.shroomery.org/index.php/par/12195 NOTE: these calculated dosages are not exact, and can differ from person to person, so be careful.
Good luck and happy tripping!

If you're going to have to wait untill fall anyways, are you in any position to grow them? It would be MUCH safer than trying to hunt them down w/out any experience in doing so. I've never picked wild mushies, but just from researching I know that the fun ones can have deadly look alikes growing right amongst them. You also have several months to build up some connections, so mebbe you could buy them as well?
