I was able to heat up 15 L of cold water in 15 mins to 150 degrees F. Perfect alternative to the oven because you can do it outside. No stinking up the house. All you need is a power outlet
I dont think it will work for my 55 gallon barrel.. i'll have to use a combination of propane and power steam.
I think i will try insulating it.. maybe the steam can GRADUALLY get 55 gallons to 140 deg F..

55 gal = 250 L... i would probably only need it half full because of horse shit displacement..
so, 125L.. which is only approx 10 times more than what i did.
My test was with an OPEN lid, in a metal pot.. so who knows.

damn, lol.
I just use this crock pot ive got, cuz i never do any huge runs with poo...wouldn't really know what to do with more than 5lbs of poo, lol, not enough room.
But a huge barrell would be good for a nice outdoor grow
Gl with it

$70 canadian at home depot. $20 / day to rent.
I'm thinking of taking it apart and placing the 1500W heating element directly into the barrel, and forget the steam hose. Maybe gaining back that heat loss will help me out abit..

$6 at a thrift store.

Old school table-top roaster. (pre-dates Crock Pots) Low setting is below 150F & adjustable up.
Will hold a 25lb turkey, or 25lb of h/poo bags. Just add water to the insert, for steam.

i thought 140 was okay if you do it for a much longer period of time..
quote: "An effective pasteurization will eradicate harmful bacteria, nematodes, insects and fungi. In general a compost substrate temperature of 140o F for 4 hours is adequate for a complete pasteurization"
link
its been 1 hour and the temp is just below 150! ill check it in half an hour, and then try another 60L

http://www.caswellplating.com/kits/ceramic_heaters.html Theses ceramic heating elements are used for anodizing. They get super hott super quick. You could use maybe 2 of them for a 55 gallon drum. They heat up a 5 gallon bucket in less that 10 minutes. Just a thought.
