Skateboard taken as evidence, buy new one?

I was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and have yet to go to court, dont even know what my court date is. My skateboard was taken as evidence. I was arrested April 9th and its the 26th, I was told I'd get a call. I haven't. I called the district attorney's office and had to go through some automated messages and never got through to a person, so I'm assuming that if I don't want a court date, I don't have to because they're not doing shit. I guess that's just background, but I was wondering what will happen if I am charged as guilty etc. Get a fine? My skateboard is worth about $180, would it just be better to buy a new skateboard and forget everything? I assume a fine would be more than that. I got caught shoplifting and had to pay $200.

I say fight it. Is skateboarding illegal in your town? If not, fight the case. If so, lobby to have the law changed. If you don't feel like putting that much effort into it, just get a new board and be more on the lookout for the fuzz next time you go skateboarding.
I can't believe that skateboarders are still being harassed in this day and age. It seems to me that skateboarding is no more dangerous to pedestrians than bicycles, rollerblades, or segways. You'd think that since Tony Hawk and Bam Margera are now household names, police would be more tolerant of skaters, but nah, nigga...!
Anti-skateboarding laws are yet another example of legislation that discriminates against a certain culture that the establishment finds offensive.
Oh, yeah, and you really shouldn't shoplift. Especially not in the store where I work. I'm serious, nigga, steal from me and my friends and we'll shoot you in the kneecap. $200? You got off easy, man. Be thankful they didn't chop off your hand.

Your all wrong.
No I didn't steal the skateboard. A friend and I tied a rope to the back of his car, and he pulled me up the hill I was skating down, so that I could go down again, we were going the speed limit FYI. We passed 2 police cars and kept going, that was the mistake, should have bailed down a side road. The last thing either of us expected was to be arrested for this. We just figured we were close enough to the top of the hill...meh. We pass another police car, an SUV, adrenaline starts pumping... 3 cars.... they're not all going to ignore us. RIght about 2 seconds before we stop the car so I can go back down since we're at the top of the hill, this woman police officer, one of the first 2 to pass us, comes speeding up to catch us. She pulls us over. We were cooperative, but not submissive. She had the funniest look on her face. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?" "Uhhh Skateboarding?" She says about 2 words to us after that. Words like this: "Do you know how fast you were going?" "20-25" "45!" "NO! NO! uh uh" (He never received a speeding ticket, we weren't going 45) "Do you realize you could kill him like that?" "uhhh I uhhhhh alright"She then asks us for our information and arrests us. She gets my friends car towed. I think we were arrested as opposed to getting a warning because we kind of expressed through confusion and facial guesstures that we weren't regretful of what we were doing. Nonetheless, I think it was carried way too far. I go about 10 mph faster when I go DOWN the hill. And thats without something to hold on to. Of course that's my opinion, I would love to hear everyone else's. I'm sure we'll have all sides here
Anyway, I was asking whether or not you guys thought it would be worth it to just ignore everything and jsut buy a new skateboard. I assume that the penalty for "Disorderly Conduct" would be greater than the worth of the skateboard, which is about $180 (Longboard)

do you have a good lawyer?
If it was me I'd sue the municipal government for wrongful arrest. Even if you lose, it still costs the city money, which will make the police reluctant to fuck with you again. Most municipal governments act like businesses. If its not economically viable to prosecute someone, they generally don't.

1. All skateboarders should be confined to skateparks. They are a nuisance to society.
2. If you didn't get a ticket with a fine to pay, then you should have been taken to the station, booked, and given a court date after bonding out. If neither of those happened, then you got jacked for your board.
3. Are you old enough to post here?

Do you really think it would make them reluctant to fuck with me again if I tried to sue them? As if they'll remember me by name? Or they'll stop me and get my information and realize that I try to sue? I was breaking the law, and yes, I would definitely lose

They took your board because they sell them at police auctions. I remember a skateboard video (I think it was by REAL) where they went to the auction, bought all the boards and gave them back to kids for free.
Whenever it looks like a deck of mine is about to get snatched I snap it in half. Fuck 'em.

Exist, man thats fucked up. the only person your going to kill is yourself, i love how cops think its thier job to protect you from yourself. anyways, even if thiers no court date listed im sure theyll make one up one day and u wont know it and then youll have a warrant out for your arrest. so id goto court explain the situation to the judge, in a calm cool respectful manner, forget the lawyer, its not worth it to get one. and the judge will either tell you your an idiot pay the fine and we're keeping your board , or hell be like this is ridiculous [ youll still have to pay the fine most likely ] and give you your board back. either way take it like a man.

Believe it. In my town, skateboarding anywhere is illegal, and technically you could be fined just by riding down the sidewalk. That law is considered 'elastic' however, meaning that your fate lies within the decency of a cop. I got a $50 fine once for skating outside a closed skatepark after hours in a fucking parking lot. Skating anywhere will get you kicked out or worse yet, ticketed.
I remember me and a buddy were skating this four-stair, and a cop came by.
"You boys know this is private property?" "We're on our way", I said and started picking up our stuff. "There's no skateboarding allowed on these premises" "I understand that, and we're leaving" "You know I can fine you for this? You kids can't do this type of stuff. You can roll around if you want - but don't do tricks. It's just not worth it".
Any authority treats you like dirt if you carry a board.
