so like, i wanna start learnin abit of drums. not a drum set, but something simialr to bongos or congas or whatever. i have a freind who is really good n shit, but he is far away and always busy, so its hard to talk about smaller stuff like this, like trying to find out which would be the right drum for me.
so, i like deeper sounds in drums. but it the deeper drums tend to be the biggest... and honestly i dont have room for that here. so i need something that is moderately deep, yet still not huge. something which doesnt need its own stand. something i can rest between my legs or something.
any ideas??

a djembe has a nice deep warm sound and you can get high sounds too so you can create really nice diverse rhythms with it
also it isn't too big either

my bro recently got a Leon Mobley signature Remo Djembe, and it's heaven... not too big, maybe 18" diameter, but has a deep sound in the middle and sharp accents on the rim.
I recommend going this route.

yesterday i had a conversation iwth my drummer friend over ther phone. he was tellin me that for the sound i want i should definately not get a djembe. he was sayin that cause the deep sound is only in the middle of it, it limits you or whatever. he said instead that i should make space in my room and get a low conga. so im not really sure what to do...
and i never heard of these doumbeks, gonna have to check it out!

best advice I can give you is go to a music store and just try a few drums out! The only way to really know what you like to hear is to try it out. Also that way you can compare and decibe better what kind of drum you want
