Are these aborts? I already harvested some large fruits off this cake, and these don't look like they've grown much in a few days. They are much darker than the other pins were... is there anything I can do with them to restart their growth if they are aborts? Or do I just need to pick 'em and forget about it? What would cause this to happen?

First of all pick them up. Some Fruits will abort, thats a fact and not much can be done about it, thats the way it is. the number of aborts depend on all of the reasons above. anyway pick them up, if you'll leave them they will rot and cause trouble. BTW: some say that aborts are very potent fruits !!!

mushrooms abort, and everybody poops, thats the way the world works look at commercially grown oysters, you'll see lots of aborts on them too. i think its just like the runts of the litter, they get out competed and starve.
