Digital temperature meters
    #5556241 - 04/25/06 08:15 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

When set to the indoor setting, my digital temperature meters shows 81 degrees F, but when I switch to the outdoor setting, the temperature shows 91 degrees F.

Which setting, outdoor or indoor, should be used when using these digital temperature meters and why?

the outdoor setting relies on a remote sensor attached by a wire. were you holding the sensor by chance? remember YOU are 98F and might have been throwing off the reading.

that aside, use the setting that seems more accurate. does your room feel more like 81 or 91? go with the one that seems closest.

remote sensors are typically slightly less accurate - they make use of a thermistor, an electric resistor that varies resistance with temperature. wire itself has a bit of resistance, and a cheap temp gauge might not appropriately compensate for that thus throwing your temp readings off somewhat. if it is less accurate, it should always be wrong by the same amount though. play around if you find that the outdoor one always shows 10 degrees higher, you can still use the remote probe, just mentally subtract 10 from whatever it tells you. that's a pretty big difference though so the remote probe itself might be faulty.

F U
That's what it says on the box you forum sociopath...

Thanks creamcorn
Exactly the info I need.
Am a noob at this, and I basically fried my jars at above 90 degrees for a week with the meter set to "indoor" and simply reading the temperature of the room. Hopefully you saved my jars.

haha don't listen to 'em, we all make mistakes...

as long as you weren't holding them above the magic 106F "thermal death" limit for long they're gonna be alright!

Wow.
There are some really uptight people on this board.

I admit it. I'm a noob, and I've made many mistakes. I'm sure I'll make many more. But I'm enjoying my first go at cultivating shrooms as well as finding out as much information as possible about the craft, even though there are some out there who look forward to raising themselves above others with their condescending comments...
