i supposed that was a harsh appraisal of colorado springs, but it is an extremely conservative place...it's not horrible, but i personally didn't enjoy it much. there are a few cool things to do downtown, but there's no "scene" to speak of. manitou is seriously a cool rustic heady town just minutes from the springs.

I go to school in Colorado Springs and yes they it is a very conservative place. Manitou indeed cooler, but its all pretty much the same area and there are good people in both towns. Colorado is pretty much ideal if you're outdoorsy at all. the mountains are worth living in the vacinity of just about any sort of conservative imo.

I'm more in to the outdoors then anything else. I can look in to Manitou. But under the circumstance, I might have to just settle down in Springs. I'll know more about that tomorrow.I lived in a little town called Brandon, South Dakota. It can not be worse then that.

...or when you're hiking in the backcountry and see a grizzly foraging, or a herd of elk grazing, or mountain goats climbing steep ass rocks that i couldn't hope to find a foothold on, or a moose munching on some leaves, and there's osprey and eagles flying above you while the air is filled with the scent of ponderosa and doug-fir needles, and there's no sounds from car engines, buses, trains, masses of stupid tourists *coughcough rocky mt national park cough*...and all you have to worry about is finding level ground to sleep on next to this beautiful alpine lake filled with trout and watching the sunset
get away from the roads

I used to live in alamosa about 2 and half hours west of the springs in the san luis valley.. it was very cheap two bedroom was around 500 maybe 600 with everything included.. jobs were there but not the greatest (thats why i became a paramedic.. there is always a shortage of them where ever you go).. its a college town so there is some stuff to do.. Colorado was the best place i lived so far.. there was this little town called Crestone just off the highway about 30 mins north.. it was awsome because it consisted of a gas station, a general store, a thai food resturant, and a coffee shop.. only about 45 people live there year round and you can meet them all in about 2 hours if you hang at the coffee shop.. definately a hippy town..

I talked to a friend of mine that used to live there. I thought he only lived in Denver. Anyway, he said it's beautiful there, he also said that if I wanted to get in the scene, I could always take a trip to Denver.

I'm pretty sure this is what I what to do. I'm going through a ruff time, so this will be a wonderful, much needed change.

5 military bases, the largest family 'morals' group in the country (Focus on the Family), and general conservatism or crackheadism are rampant...

The mountains are everywhere in Colorado.  Don't live in Colorado Springs.  Seriously, DO NOT.  There are a lot of better towns you can live in.  You don't have to live in Denver to be part of the "scene."  Live in one of the suburbs or something.  One of my best friends grew up in Colorado Springs and he's got nothing good to say about it.  I've been there many times myself and I always get a great satisfaction when I leave.  I know many people who grew up there and have not been back in over a decade...and its only an hour drive from Denver.  :tongue2:

I went up there for 3 days and had a wonderful time... Its a college town so theres a good crowd of younge rto semi younger and middle aged folk who are good fun.

The mountains are wondeful to explore in the evening and theres a kick ass sushi place on one of the main avenues.

YEAH but ive never lived there, so i couldnt tell you what non-tourist life is like.

the springs isn't a college town.. it's a military town...

it may appear like a college town now, since like 1/3 of the population is deployed.

other downpoints: almost no public transportation, nothing is open late, there aren't many good restaurants, the skiing is too far away...

it's really better to live somewhere west of denver.. but not really past boulder unless you want to be in the middle of the mountains.

yos-

It's not bad here, the mountains are right at your door step, so that's a treat in it self. Denver is about 50 min away, but Boulder is 1 1/2-2.. Now that's where it's at I think.. It's just expensive $$$!! Nonetheless I came from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Even though I miss it cause it's home anything is still better than there. Jobs aren't to bad out here, cost of real estate is about 208,000.00 average. It's pretty, my only thing is the weather. It's constantly changing and absolutely annoying.

Colorado weather is wacky as fuck.  CO springs is cheap as shit honestly haha.  You can get a bomb ass 1BR for under $1,000 on the west side for which you would pay $1,500 for a similar setup in Denver.  Unfortunately, the springs is like the worst place to live in Colorado besides like shitty Lamar or the 4 corners.  I lived in Manitou for like 8 months.  It was cool for a little while but the luster ran fast.
