An elephant once dreamt:
A casing of 50/50 in a large rubbermaid container with an ultrasonic humidifier has been giving some strange results.
When first pinning, everything seemed ok. Pins were showing up, and starting to grow. After the fruits reach a height of 1-2 inches, they seem to stall. They aren't aborts, because they aren't getting darker. They're still growing, but only at a rate of about 1/4-1/2 inch a day!! What the hell is going on with these? It's currently 5 hours short of three days since the first few pins started. Those pins are only 2 inches max. New pins are forming, but seem to be growing very slow.
So, the fruits are growing to a height of 2 inches in 3 days, isn't that abnormal (this is the elephant's first time, so he isn't for sure, but it shouldn't take this long for these to grow).
I thought it might be a case of too much moisture, but that's been fixed. Air is exchanged durring the day every 3-4 hours and once durring the night (which is about 6-8 hours depending on when the cargiver wakes up).
The strain, purchased from the hawk's eye (it was supposed to be 2 syringes of B+, but it was replaced, unknown to the buyer and without warning, with 1 syringe of Equador and one of Mexicana), and it doesn't seem to look like the label. It was labeled Mexicana, but there's no way these primordia look like any mexicana pics I've seen.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought Mexicana were supposed to be fairly thin stemmed and light in color. These are very wide (width of my pinky) and dark caramel.
So, might these be some other species, and what could be done to get them to grow at a normal pace?

thats not totally rediculous as far as growth times go. Just be patient. Whats your casing? verm? 5050?

they will grow much faster right smack at 75 degrees. 70 slows it down a bit and they have very noticeable slowed growth at 65-68. everything else seems optimal.

As far i know Hawk doesn?t sell P. mexicana.
So it yould be P. cubensis Mexi-Cub-Mexico.

fresh357, the casing is like this:
Bottom Layer of Verm, substrate, and 50/50 on top.
BeppoMarx, The temp isn't controlled more than the thermostat. The thermostat fluctuates between 70-80 F (it's left up to the elephant's roommate; who is oblivious to the experiment, and keeping the therm at 70 all the time in the winter will make him suspicious).
Anno, the syringes were definately labeled "Mexicana" Perhaps whoever labeled the syringe was mistaken, and really meant Mexican Cubensis. These shroomies definately look like your average cubensis, except they have some pretty dark coloration to them, but nothing I haven't seen in pics before.
Thanks for all your help mushroom dudes. I've noticed a bit more growth, but nothing more than a few millimeters in the last 8 hours. I can't figure out what's making them grow so slowly. I thought the average time from primordia to full grown fruit was just a few days at the most. These have been going for a few days and are still tiny. Oh well, I'll wait them out and see what happens.

i had just assumed that you meant a mexi cub. Ps. mexicana are pretty distinctive, plus not as easy to grow. if he gave you some it was from his personal stock, on accident. more likely he was just a little high and mislabeled.
Its normal. Just put them away and dont look at them for a while. Call me crazy but that always seems to work for me.
