for the pathetic peice of garbage it is.
after monitering torrents looking for a genuine copy of tools new shit, i finally found it tonight.
i was so goddamn excited, avid serious tool fan/addict.
to hear what they did with this album is so goddamn sad, the old tool has gone, and some bastardized version of APC/bad ambient noise has ruined the best psychedelic rock band still around.
let this be a warning. unless you want to listen to 70+ mins. of boring tedious formless sound, dont bother with it.
so so sad

aenima was any different? HALF the fucking songs on that cd are filler!
Lateralus has the same thing going on.
You're off your rocker.

well this is of course an opinion based rant.
i thought aenima was a masterpeice, and lateralus damn close.
this new one is just a joke...like 4/5 of the song are endless introductions that lead to nothing but more droning and ambient bore.
fuck, aenima and lateralus were gold, this is garbage

I'm easily ammused so I am rarely disapointed by music. Though tool's new stuff was not as good as I had hoped; it was worth the download.

The new album rocks. It definitely is a new direction for them, so it takes a little getting used to, but after a few listens, you realize how fucking brilliant it is.

ive listened to it as much as i ever will. if i want to fucking hear that shit i will play the mars volta or radiohead...thats all it is to me, they can go their new direction, i wont be following. i will continue to religiously listen to everything up till this one, though.
opeth is amazing, massive attack i can dig, infected mushroom has little appeal to me, not familiar with the fourth

I find that I can really only get the full vibe from radiohead when I'm stoned. They're just so much better that way. Mars volta needs to release something new. THat's tha shit.
Have you listened to Converting Vegetarians while tripping on mushrooms? I think that was the best musical experience of my life.

most of what i listen to was recorded before 1975, as far as new music goes(with the exception of a lot of metal) im outa the loop. tool, RATM, alice in chains, etc there are exceptions of course
ive been on an early moody blues/CSNY kick lately

personally i think this album has what it takes to compete with lateralus... it is a totally different direction, but it rocks nonetheless... IMO you can't really compare the 2 albums since they follow completely different themes...

If you have liked their previous works, it baffles me how you could come to a conclusion such as yours. It's Tool, it's new, it's different, don't make quick judgements. Listen to it a few times, you'll learn to love it if you have any appreciation for Tool and what they're about.

I did that awhile ago and it was the best trip ive ever had. Its like the CD had a story to tell from begining to end. Words couldnt even describe the emotions I felt that night.
But all this discussion of tool goin on lately has gotten me curious. I've never really listined to tool, so what would you guys consider their best work to be? I wanna check them out.

Yeah, I agree. This new album takes a few listens before you can really start to get a feel for it. This is just an opinion, and you obviously can't argue opinions, but a few of the songs are already stuck in my head. I haven't listened to too much of their older stuff, but I would rank this a close second to Lateralus, with a couple of the songs perhaps even above it.
I had my expectations exceeded.

Once you get over yourself and your expectations(thats the hard part) and just listen to the music you will realize it's actually pretty good.
