Hello, Me and my friend went mushroom hunting and found a hell of alot oh mushrooms what we think are Liberty Caps.
Habitat: Damp forest area/mulch Cap: Pointy dark brown nipple then as it goes down turns into a very lite brown Gills: Kinda crowded (not very seperate but not extremly crowded) creamy/brown colour. Stem: Thin white/brown. Can bend around finger without snapping. Brusing: We think it's ever so slightly blue, but we heard Liberty Caps don't bruse blue much if at all unless dried?
Sorry about quality, might help a little bit.

Thanks in advance

Well it doesn't look like a liberty cap - that's the wrong kind of habitat for them also. Was it growing straight out of the mulch?
Picture is kind of blurry.. you said there was a brownish tone to the gills.. They look straight white on my screen.
I know colors can appear different when taken with certain cameras, or in certain light. So does it look closer to white or brown under natural light?
Spore print color?

The mycenoid shape suggests Mycena. Not active and possibly poisonous.

oh well im that guys mate.. ive eaten one , and i didnt feel or anything.
does anyone know if the Lip test is a viable mean of telling if there poisonous or not?
you rip a peice of the cap off , put it to your lip , and if theres a burning sensation as if someone has put a small flame to it for a second its poisonous , and if no burn its safe to assume there all good for consumption?

Are you fucking kidding me? Where do people learn this kind of shit? The post above yours says POSSIBLY POISONOUS. There is no simple test for poisoning. Actually, that's not true - what you did, eating an unidentified mushroom, is a great simple test. If you get sick, no one else should eat it.
Also, do your research. What made you think those are libs? They don't particularly look like libs, it is the wrong time of year, and they were found in the wrong type of habitat. Wishing they are libs won't make them become so.
Sorry for the rant/flame, but use some common sense.

www.shroomery.com explains identifying , hunting, and consuming mushrooms all over the website. it clearly emphasis NEVER to eat ANY mushroom you havent 100% positavely identified...
oh and the "lip test" is a myth, i think i also read on the shroomery General Information section to disregard such as blasphamy. anyways remember to check the website for the asnswers to your question before posting and ALWAYS before eating a mushroom.
you should be alright if you only ate one tiny little mushroom even if it is poisonus, however there is a chance you can get sick- if this happens i recommend you go to the hospital.
hope your ok. if not. farewell
Edit by shroommydan: Just fixed two spelling errors so that this will show up on the search post function.

There is no universal way of telling if a mushroom is poisonous or not. The only way to be sure is going through the identification process.
I agree with shroomydan on this one. I originally thought mycena, and posted it, but ninja edited it out since the thread starter mentioned brownish color on the gills. Mycenas typically have white gills- as well as spores.
Mycenas should not be eaten because:
1. they are too small to be of any edible value - even if they were edible and probably have not much taste to them... so it's just not worth it.
2. Most mycenas are of unknown edibility. This means we just don't know. The possibility still could exist that they are poisonous.

I would like to add to the fine advise in this thread that to my knowledge there are no known deadly Mycenas.
No need to worry too much about dieing from eating a single Mycen specimen, even though there is the possibility that one of the species of unknown edibility may actually be deadly.

Several species of Mycena are known to have levels of muscarine high enough to make you pretty sick. Mycena is not a good genus for experimentation. They're just too small and fleshless to bother with anyway.
Happy mushrooming!

Even if one suspected a Mycena to be active (like the one in my avatar), they are too small to feel anything from eating a single shroom.
