Not everyone buys into the 'spiritual/meaningfull' aspect of Mushrooms or LSD - they just write it off as 'drugs messing with their head', leave it as a good time with laughs and giggles, and dont get any benifit out of doing the drug other than a few laughs.
I know people who used to do LSD every weekend, who is now a production manager for a video on demand porn site and isnt a hippy at all. *shrug*
I smoke pot, do LSD and Mushrooms -- still going to University and doing well, still working in jobs. I think I have an increased respect for nature and a better understanding of myself, but my life course of "Finish school, get a job" etc, etc, etc are still the same now as they were before doing them.
People who become 'far out' and drop out, tend to be pretty inclined to do so anyways and were probably already on the path to that point before tripping. *shrug*

LSD- You're constantly on the move, even if you aren't
Shrooms- Essentially the same as LSD, but from my experience far more intense
Both are worth trying at least once

Yo man, don't listen to a lot of the responses you got. The immature thing, pfft..doubtfully. Mushrooms can be the greatest high you've ever had. I've got a good few trips under my belt, but it's very hard to describe them. If you do decide to, in my opinion, take a low dose of shrooms (not acid first time) this can be a fun experience, and you'll laugh and see things weird and stuff, but wont turn you into a "tree-hugging" hippie. As you can see from most of the posts you may read, a lot of people on this site are very well educated, and aren't your classic Hippy. Anyways, try a low dose of shrooms first, and see if you like it. If not, then they're not for you. gl & hf

its true.
I used to be in the fucking republican club in highschool, after taking shrooms, smoking much ganja etc. (never tried LSD) It has opened my eyes--You just realize how stupid most the stuff going on is, and I now think in a much more philosophical way. If you aren't at all a philosophical person, I wouldn't take shrooms or LSD--they are not party drugs, or ones for pure 'rushes' like cocaine etc. They are to think and look at the beauty of life etc.
To tell you the truth, im happier, and it has not effected my health or smarts at all (that I can tell ).

Tryptamine experiences and the consequent introspection following the events have helped me mold a currently broad yet defined future.
I consider them the best drugs. I think they exist because today's society does not cater to the traditional methods of 'enlightenment,' and because our society has become so accustomed to seeking out foreign compounds for neurochemical change.
I consider them to be 'different' than other drugs, these substances seem to carry a message(s).
They've definitely "helped" me in divulging my identity, and they definitely "helped" me in establishing a theological paradigm.
I feel like when I was younger I experienced a 'release' of DMT which brought me to some strange conclusions about the workings of things and the "is-ness" of things when I was 14, so these drugs have an even higher significance to me.
I feel they helped me "assess" the situation quite accurately and quite acutely, and also helped me in the recognition of my possible purpose within these circumstances. I feel a lot more compatible with these compounds than alcohol, opiates, any pharmaceutical, ... well, anything.
I am frightfully aware of the condition in which my generation seems to rest right now (I'm 18) and being on LSD/Mushrooms while they are "fucked up" on something else, I feel, has given me great insight into the human mechanisms and reasoning for drug use.
They are also fun, at times, and there's nothing wrong with that. I feel as if my qualities where put into perspective, and my stronger qualities only made stronger. I realize I am cognizant of conceptions and objective circumstances to which many people are not, and that I'm definitely thinking way "ahead of my time."
Psychedelics offer a sense of unparalled consolation to somebody in my situation (of physical maturity), when you're overly cerebral within an age grouping typically associated with 'shallow' pursuits and sentiments.
I get a lot of meaning out of these "drugs" and I've eventually come to terms with the fact that I have so much reverence for a substance.
But I am a heterotroph, and there's carbon in those molocules, along with some other shit that cannot quite be explained, and for me, that warrants research.
It's only natural to open the valve.

doors will be opened, which ones you enter, however, will be left upon you, i am no "hippy", im 20 years old, i make just over 40K a year, a mindless drone in the 9-5, maybe, at first appearance, but becuase you fear to find what is beyond present comprhension, my life, more fulfilled, in ways you could never know, i see things in ways you could never congegate, and that has propelled me as oppesed to holding me back, but like i said, it can only be, like everyhting else in lfe, what you make of it
