Don't join for lack of any better idea of what to do.

The government can and will control EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of your life. When you wake up, when you shit, when you eat, all of that is at the discretion of uncle sam. They will inject you with chemicals that make you temporarily unable to have erections. They will yell and shout and physically torture you until you have no mind or will of your own, and you will come back a shell of the man you were before you joined. The military uses techniques similar to religious cults to brainwash (or, as they call it 'train') their employees.
The Marines definately do that and the Army does it somewhat but Air Force Basic Training is easier than high school gym class from what I have heard.

the only thing "easier" about air force basic is that it used to be shorter. in recent years, its been lengthened to the 8 weeks (same as navy) with a lot more field and wepaons training. all the physical standards are the same across the military, you just have shorter time to get fit in the air force.
the air force does have a lot more "classroom training" but they still get up at four and crawl through the mud. it aint fun.

From what I have read, Marines have to do many more pushups and stuff like that for their final physical tests than Airmen do.
Everybody I have seen come out of Marine basic training was hard as a rock. Everybody I have seen come out of Air Force basic training was flabby. I would gander to say that the physical training in the Marines and the Army is much more instense than in the Air Force or the Navy.

good advice
A lot of people join the armed forces because they think they can just try it out and see if its for them... nah, nigga. Once you sign that paper, your only way out is a dishonorable discharge or a body bag. Unless you just get badly injured...
But the armed forces isnt a job that you can just quit... Once you're in, you're in. so my advice is not to make that commitment unless you are 1000% sure its what you want to do...

You better recognize!! Nah, army is a piece of cake. Its only 2 month training. Marines is the SHIT. You train at 800 yard range with your m16a2 (army is only 400) plus we have what is called the crucible. Half the platoon breaks (physically and mentally) during that 3 day 3 night test. But the next day is chow as far as the eye can see and you get to stay in bed allll day

the only branch i would join would have to be the coast guard and that would be a situation of last resort. you help keep smugglers out and other important things. sure it can be dangerous if your in aboarding party especially but ya thats the mostlikely way to be in the armed forces and not have to go to combat. but if i was gonna get drafted id join the marines before being drafted by the army.

I must be in decent shape because I can easily do 15 pull-ups and 50 push-ups at once without taking a break.

Yeah, I know. I watch the Navy Seal BUD/S training documentary series on the Military Channel. It looks pretty intense. One of the mods here used to be a Seal.

heh i have no guff against ppl joining the military and if there was a cause that i thought was justifiable i probably would but i just don't believe in this war. and hell i support the troops, i support bringing them home and their safety in the war-zone. i just don't support our government leaders...

like i said, those are the requirements. marines have longer training than airmen, and they do work out programs with weights and shit which isnt done in the air force.
usually we did at least twice the rquirement in less time if we fucked anything up for a particular excercise. TIs (the guys with the smokey bear hats) are really good at making you feel about an inch tall, even if theyre shorter than you. they know how to make push ups and sit ups torturous too
