Sweet thanks man. I liked the egg. And you gotta be a dead eye to hit a playing card like that.

They probably mounted the gun with a laser pointer or something to make it easier.

I saw that in a magazine, it was fucking amazing. You could see separate shock waves enveloping the gun and the guy firing it. I'll try and look for it.
Got it.
This full-scale schlieren image shows the discharge of a .44 Magnum revolver. Two spherical shock waves are seen, one centered about the gun?s muzzle (the muzzle blast) and a second centered on the cylinder. The supersonic bullet is visible at the far left. This weapon produces a bright muzzle flash and a cloud of products of gunpowder combustion that envelops the hands of the shooter. Such high-speed images help forensics experts understand the transfer of gunpowder traces to the hands when firing a gun. Photograph courtesy of Gary S. Settles.
High-speed photography freezes in time an instant of the discharge of a .30-06-caliber rifle. The fast exposure captures the bullet as it emerges at about Mach 2.5, but the spherical shock wave of the muzzle blast and the sweptback shock waves behind the bullet are normally invisible. While this image was captured on film, new digital video technology that can capture the waves' distortion of a background pattern has enabled some classical optical techniques to enter the modern age, where they can image high-resolution details of ballistic events with a large field of view and under realistic conditions. Because flows are standardized to move from left to right in fluid dynamics, some images in this article are printed in reverse. Photograph courtesy of Gary S. Settles.

Wow, that's beautiful So this is what one would actually see if you could freeze time? The distortions come from the pressure differences I guess? What would be extra cool is if they had a circular array of these cameras. Then you could see a freeze time rotation ala The Matrix

Figure 6. When a toy balloon bursts, a schlieren photograph shows that the balloon skin shreds very rapidly, revealing a balloon-shaped bubble of compressed air inside. A spherical shock wave is formed despite the non-spherical initial shape of the balloon. The colors in this image were introduced by color filters that take the place of a knife-edge.
Oooh, trippy

do you see how the bullet seems to go faster after it hits some of the objects? I know it's an illusion but why?

I think they speed up the framerate after impact to make the video more fluid. You can see the bullet before impact going in steps. After impact it's fluid.

It's funny that you say that, in baseball, batters claim that some pitchers fastballs seem to increase in velocity when they get closer to the plate, like they Jump at the batter in the last 10 feet or so, Curt Schilling was talking about it in reference to Papelbon and Beckett the other day on WEEI

Maybe depth-perception is better at close range so that at long range it's hard to judge the speed, but at close range your eyes have to adjust the focus on the object. Just guessing though.
Found some more high speed animation (click links for video)

That's crazy how the pin stays in place, and the explosion comes out of that little hole in the top.

Slo-mo fat people.
Looks like the paintball makes more of a ripple than the BB.

Yeah, but the BB is more focused. But at close range I think the paintball would hurt the most. Also depends on what kind of BB pellet is used, plastic or metal.

Ballistics gel is supposed to mimic flesh, but when I see it react to impacts on Mythbusters I always wonder if real flesh+skin would act that way. I want to see them fire into a fresh carcass or something.

I do have a video of a bunker buster in action, sadly no machine gun in the president's face.
