alternate windows shells
    #5548083 - 04/23/06 04:37 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

I've hardly used Windows in the last five years, so I'm not up on the latest developments for it. But lately I've been running it under VMware in order to use poker clients. Something about the interface for Windows XP just bugs me, I'm not comfortable with it. I'd like something that's just a little slimmer, simpler, and cooler-looking. Most importantly, I'd like something that had good multiple desktop and pager features. I use enlightenment in Linux, and really I just want to get a shell that's as similar as possible to that in Windows. Does anyone have recommendations?

I like BBlean quite a lot. Very slim, but still fairly feature rich.

I install cygwin and stay @ non-graphical shells.

VMware server is a free beta right now. You can use it locally just the same as you can with Workstation, plus you can pipe the guest OS over a network to a workstation.

Do you use gentoo, bi0? If so, you'll need a few extra tips to install and run it, and you can PM me and ask about that. VMware doesn't like gentoo's initscripting method.

I'm trying BBlean right now. Can anyone tell me how to get a pager on it, and/or how to set the mouse wheel to switch desktops?
