Is this Proof of the Pudding? (Manifetstation of Siddhi)
    #5545533 - 04/22/06 11:30 PM (15 years, 5 months ago)

The lama on the left is Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche and the one standing is Khenchen Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche (I think). Not sure about the other one (sorry).

You can find out more about those two lamas at Nalandabodhi.org.

I found out through reliable sources that experts have already examined these images and declared that they hadnt been faked or photoshopped. Skeptics, please feel free to exmaine the images for yourselves. I for one will be suspending judgement until i am in possesion of all the facts. interesting, whatever the outcome.

The third one is most interesting, as you can actually see peoples reaction toward it.

The rainbow?

Well how can you possibly prove something isn't photoshopped, those images could be completely digital or even painted- look up photo realism

With a photoshop job, you can see, becuase photosop images are contructed using layers, and each layer is layed ontop of another layer, acting as a sort of multiple canvas, with individual segments you can adjust. So all it takes is a layer by layer analysis of the photos.

I'm skeptical, but not completely dismissive. The rainbow seems to be in the same location despite slight changes in the location of the Rinpoche. It seems to be spread right between the two Buddha statues, which leads me to think that it's just decoration.

Either way, cool photos.

well, an experienced photoanylist (if thats what they're called) might be able to tell (this isn't something i know much about) but im sure there are ways to tell if something is faked. of course i doubt you could PROVE it wasn't faked, you could simply say "this photo shows no signs of having been edited" or something like that.

THAT looks pretty cool....!

The rainbow *could* be Photo-shopped into the pictures, but I would vote that it is NOT....
( because there are better options for realism)

A) It *could* be a lighting effect shining on the wall for decoration (as dblaney said)....
B) There *could* be a fine mist of water by the wall with a strategically placed full spectrum light shining on it....
C) The dooood~ *could* have a super high-energy Aura, and it proves to the world once and for all that they really do exist....
---And Randi will be sending him one million dollars in the mail....

I vote that the images are real, it is just the matter of how/why there is a rainbow there....
Haven't decided, but I am leaning towards "A"....
"C" would definitely be the coolest evar~....!

Is there more info that you are not revealing about these images....?  :rainbowdrink:

:skittles:

No, three Lamas manifest rainbow lights, as the colours of the rainbow correspond to the five elements that make up life on this planet. These things manifest when primary causes and conditions are in perfect harmony, with secondary causes and conditions. Siddhi, results from the balance which manifest naturally.

rainbows exist mostly because of the parabolic diffraction of light that gives way due to a steady fall of water.

Also, any parabolic diffraction of light, like a prism concave lens, could produce this "phenomenon".

I havent examined the photos too much, but there seems to be too much definition in the rainbows for it to be even remotely real.

in fact, it looks like it is on the wall, and anyone who has worked a projector for any length of time would be able to tell you that the lens on a projector alone can cast a rainbow on a wall.

the ranbow looks to be on the wall, which would need no photoshop to happen.

I agree with dblaney, it looks like a projection, the position of the statues in relation to the rainbow changes in relation to the camera angle. The rainbow, if it was an aura, would be constant in relation to the lama if it was emanating from him. So the photos aren't fake but it isn't an aura - just a nice bit of decoration (would be very cool if it was real though!)

By the way, I'm a photoshop nerd and those images would be really hard to reproduce in photoshop, unless you are really good that sort of thing usually ends up looking cheesey

What is real
and why does it matter?

What moral convictions motivate us to take up logical and scientific arms, for "the real"?

Maybe it's some kind of instinct, because if we were to thought that nothing is really real, we wouldn't bother to even go pee and would die of hunger. Maybe... This may be too shallow though. Maybe some greater beings set up our brains like that. Easy thought...lol

Isn't it just projected on the wall? I was looking through the pictures thinking the lamas were supposedly resurrected or something. But the rainbow- how is that even under debate? A projector put color on the wall.

I think I have a simple answer for this. However, I only speak for myself. The reason for taking up logical and scientific arms is not moral conviction. It is the existence of dangerous moral convictions based on illogical nonsense that drives people to uncover the truth.

Beyond that, I would say genetic predisposition causes people to be curious about the truth.

RedNucleus and heirs to 300 years of Enlightenment rhetoric:

Logical and scientific arms do not aim and shoot on their own -- they're not even made by themselves.

Without moral convinctions there would be no interest, force nor value to "logical" and "scientific" proofs and explanations.
