    #5544561 - 04/22/06 04:29 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

i am in the process of the casing method... on top of the mycelium i have a layer of 50% peat moss and 50 % vermiculite.... do i have to wait till the whole layer of peat moss is colonized till i put the lights on it or should i wait till the whole thing is colonized... also do i go right into the 12 on 12 off with the lights

Light induces pinning. So wait until your layer is completely colonized at optimal conditions to introduce light. You dont really need an artificial light source. The one that goes in through your bedroom window should be enough. But yeah, 8-12 hrs is enough. Ive heard that some dont even turn it off...

incubate it in the dark until 60% of the layer is colonized with mycelium, not when it's totally covered otherwise u may get overlay. once it's 60% colonized, then do the 12/12 light cycle.
