Is it possible for spores to germinate on the casing layer? I fell asleep last night and this morning i had a fully mature shroom that already dropped his spores. it was a small deposit spores, but still. I know it can harbor contams but could they germinate??

unlikely especially with a NON - nutrient casing layer... however these spores my fly around in the air and end up somewhere. ints unlikely but thats how nature works./

Spores dropping increases contamination risks??
I usually wait until the caps go purple and turn up before harvesting but if the mushrooms dropping spores is a problem I'll start harvesting a little earlier.

i htink most of the energy is spent on making spores at this point. so i harvest before spores drop. plus its messy but i really don't think its a problem. ive done both.

spores dropping has nothing to do with contamination in any sense...
and jonnyjonjonjon you wait til they go purple and turn up? not only is potency optimal way before that when the veil is breaking but why make all that mess?
but back to the original question depending on what the casing layer contains and where they land its possible they could germinate. but its not like you're not going to notice with all that other myc growing anyway... sooo..
