I have just found little bugs living in my water reservour. Basicly they're little cream coloured things that look like a cross between woodlouse and shrimp. They don't go under the water, they walk on top of it and on the wet parts of the reservour walls. They don't seem to be on the plants or anywhere else. The biggest ones are almost 2mm long. I think they may be eating the algea in the water. This is a good thing. But wil they spread further? And what are they? They've been there for 4 days now and seem happy. Should i let them stay?

I would think that they could be introducing contams. Just imagine if they get into your trays in the root system. You would never get rid of them. Cantain and kill kill kill!
They may be eating algae, but you really dont know what else they could do

Yea...Probably true. Will give it a few hours. Not all bigs are bad, and if they only eat algea then they'd save me alot of time cleaning my tank... If anyone can tell me what they are or recommend a good site about water beasties with picutes in the next few hours then please do. But I aggree with the Corporal...unless i know that thy're safe, they'll have to be eliminated!

A picture would be the only way to identify them....
Oh and i agree not all bugs are bad, but if you let some bugs slide others might fallow, even things that you cant see.

I think its one of these - http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/invertebrates/crustacean/Copepod.shtml
They were probably introduced through the seaweed extract I use. Still... just washed the tank. Rinsed it in hot water, and am now going to refill it with plain tap water. I usually use filtered water, but i'm hoping that the chlorine may help keep the beasties at bay. Also I'm now in the last two weeks of flowering and won't need to add any nutrients so hopefully; no algae = no evil mini shrimps!!

If it's one of these don't worry about it.
