    #554290 - 02/17/02 08:12 AM (22 years, 9 months ago)

hey guys!
I just birthed my cakes and i found them to be EXTREMELY mushroomy smelling! is this normal or have I a monster strain thats highly potent
( theres always hope  ) also, i had them on heating mats and the bottom of the jars werent colonizing - when i removed them the bottoms were REAL dry but the rest of the cake was delicious and damp   --------- any tips for the next stage???

Very "Mushroom smelly" is good. You never want your cakes soaking wet. Must be 100% colonized before you open the jar!!

Thats great Andrew! Make sure it gets lots of fresh air!

By the way, sometimes the bottom can be too WET and won't colonize. In that case 90% is fine. Doesn't always have to be 100%.

thats good - it was 90% when i birthed it. I had it sitting on reptile heat m,ats so i think the bottom was dry - it was very crispy lookin :O

so now i put 4 cakes into a massive casserole dish - i put a layer of damp verm. on the bottom and them my sliced up cakes then some 50/50 verm/potting soil on the top and dampened it.

I have 1 question : will i cold shock em then keep em in the light or put back in incubvator till the mycelium comes to the top?

I dont understand your question but after you see some mycelium and you decided you want to kick it into the fruiting stage you want to cold shock it and then place it in a humidified chamber and give it light + fresh air exchange.
