big or small strains with pf tek
    #5542662 - 04/21/06 11:18 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

Hi im new to mushroom growing and am very anal when I take up a project. I just want to know what would be better for the pf tek big or small strains. I ask because I've read that some bigger strains create one big fruit with a bunch aborts and would it be better to get a small fruiter which would create a more consistent coverage of the cakes. Basically what would produce more.

I've done the PF tek with Amazon, Mazapatec, and Golden Teacher; and all worked fine. I am getting bigger fruits from casings, of course. For your first try, just pick a cubensis--BPK works wonderfully. Peace.

I haven't tried B+ yet, but it is a classic. I have had the most success with the Amazon, though. Peace.

dart board it. or pick teh name you like the best or picture you like the best. doesn't really matter when you're new to the hobby.

bigger fruits just mean bigger fruice but less of them. smaller just means more small guys. same total yeild.

Cubes are cubes, lol. They have slight different traits, like PE is known to be thick and meaty, B+ is known to have some big fruits on poo...ectect

But all in all, when it comes down to it, all that matters is the substrate, FAE, and how well of a pinset you can get

Take care man

Theoretically, you'll be better off sticking with very high density nutrient subs... like grain flour, as opposed to manure. I've used rye flour, works just as well, or better than rice flour. A combination of both should create more nutrient diversity... never tried it though.

I've seen good flushes off poo cakes, but as far as I know, they were spawned to. I can't recall reading about anyone innoculating a horse poo cake. If you've got poo, your cake days are comming to an end.

If you have a PC (or don't mind buying one), consider skipping cakes and going straight to casings, you won't be dissapointed.
