RH too Low.. Trying everything.. Need some Advice please..
    #5541935 - 04/21/06 06:47 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

Hi all, thanks in advance for answering this..

I am having a few issues.. My martha setup that i thought was so perfect hasnt been in the last few days.. Now the only thing i can think of changing is the weather but not by much so you tell me..

My martha was running at 96% RH for weeks,, now in the last few days its been running at 88% RH and I havent changed a thing.. My water is always full on the ultra sonic, it blows every 45 mins for 15 mins (is that too much?) It almost seems i need it to go on every 1/2hr for 15mins, I dont want to soak my casings but it seems the casing mix is wet but not soaking,
I added another humidifier so I have 3 total on it and nothing.. I dont want to make the ultrasonic run more ofter because im afraid it will soak everything.. should i be worried? I added perlite in a tray that takes up each shelf and placed the casings on that nothing,, I added a bubbler stone to each tray with an air pump,, nothing.. what do I do?

SO...

Is it normal and recommended that your casing mix be not wet but very moist at all times?

How the heck can I raise my RH? Read above all ive already tried/

thanks

fozi

maybe the humidity is escaping somewhere??

check everything is sealed. 88 is not so bad...

Well besides my drain hole which is a must and has been there the whole time.. no leaks.. also.. I havent fruited yet.. pinning now..

Are you saying 88% is fine and Should I not have my ultra sonic come on as ofter to keep RH at 96%? What do you think about my other questions in my 1st post?

thanks

You don't want the casing wet, just moist. It's possible your hygrometer is off, especially if there was a humidity drop and nothing changed.

That would be my guess, but if the humidity is off, and you're running all that air, you should check your airflow and make sure you're not creating a stack. And if you're using a cool mist, consider cutting back on time, or restricting the flow by drilling more holes. Use your own judgement on this.

Even high humidity can dry casings out if the air exchange is too high.

may i be the first to suggest maybe it is your euquipement that is off and not your set up. normally the simplest answer is correct right? well if it ran fine and now it doesn't but nothings broke and there are no changed variables then ya..

plus those things suck unless have a really good one. do the 'salt test'.

My vote goes to hysteresis(spelling?) of the hygrometer as well.
