Question for intermediate mycologists.
    #553751 - 02/16/02 04:56 PM (22 years, 1 month ago)

Right after you finish casing a jar, I see some people leave thier tray open in a chamber thats 95% humid with 80-85temp. Others will just put foil over it to keep the moisture in, and stick it in a place thats 80-85degrees.
I did the foil method but I hated taking it off for patching and not knoweing what the humidity was for sure.
What do you intermediate to experienced mycologists recomend?

You could do both.. Leave the lid on for 4-7 days, then take it off and place into fruiting chamber. So long as everything is clean, you'll be just fine.

Ok, so after you case it, you cover it with tinfoil say (to keep it dark) then after 4-7 days you uncover it and put it in the terrarium?
Cold shocking.. this induces pins? so it would be done just before you uncover it??

I dont know, Im still new! Im not going to coldshock mine cuz im doing B+ and B+ is easy to fruit. ya, im just gonna leave them covered at 80-85degrees for 5-6 days then uncover and stick in the terrarium. After I stick them in the terrarium, im gonna ewait till i have an awsome mycelium network happening and then lower the temps to about 70-75 and lower the humidity to 80-90% to induce fruiting.

Hmmmmmmm....maybe I will try a few trays with coldshocking, ill leave them out on the porch. Ive never done coldshock, only studied it. i wont know till I try.

In reply to:

Don't fret over that too much. Cased shroomies get most of their moisture from the casing layer and thus humidity isn't that important.

do you mean just throwing it in the fruiting chamber UNCOVERED at higher temps till its ready to fruit, then lower the temp and start the fruiting cycle (fanning , misting)??

Humidity is VERY important!

To get a proper pinset, bith humid casing layer and humid air is needed.

You are worrying much to much over the while issue.
Simply cover the casing container for 4 days and keep it in a warm place, then uncover it and put it into the fruiting chamber with high humidity.

And buy The Mushroom Cultivator.

Thanks Anno. I'll throw it in a clean fruiting chamber after 4 days then and patch it then.

I havent grown 1 mushroom but im already starting to experiment with almost 3-4 different ways of doing this. I find that keeping a fruiting chamber at 85-95% is the hardest(fruiting casings in chamber).

Im trying to get a webcam that works with WindowsXP Pro, when I get it Ill post ALL my pics for all my fellow newbies to enjoy!

remember at first you want the humidity for the casing to be 95%+, then once pins form lower it a bit
