I get along with some hippies better than others. The kind I don't get along with are the hardcore vegans who want to shove their beliefs down your throat, the radical feminists who think all men want to rape them, the UFO conspiracy theorists who think David Icke is a prophet, the shallow pseudo-intellectuals with Che shirts who have poorly thought-out political opinions, and certain segments of the "New Age" movement.
Wow, that list was a bit longer than I expected. Anyway, it may seem as though I've just listed all the types of hippies, but that can't be it, because most of my friend from college were hippies(and some would describe me as a hippie as well). I think it's a matter of degree. I had friends in college who were vegan, and didn't force their beliefs on me, though they did help me improve my diet. I had friends who were feminists, but not the man-hating types. I can respect a wide array of political views, as long as the person can intelligently defend them. And my own beliefs could be described as "New Age", but some people just take it too far. I still have trouble getting along with the UFO crowd, though.

People resent the openminds, and freedom that hippies enjoy. Most people cannot achieve this level of enlightenment and take out their frustrations on those that do.

I think that's a great example of hippie pretentiousness. People don't like you because of your scary enlightenment? Give me a break.

All older generations get knocked, hippies are no exception, and the current young generation will too when it gets to be your turn, lol
Still, I'd opt for hippie parents rather than the ones that they had to put up with...
Hippie parents kick ass! God bless them all!

yeah, dude, like I'm sooooooo jealous of hippies
I wish I could trade my gold and diamonds for hemp and glass beads
and I really wish I could trade my sportscar for a VW bus that runs on biodeisel
and wouldn't it be great if I could leave the air conditioned comfort of my urban environment for a farm where they grow their own organic food and shit in a hand-dug latrine?
that would be awesome!
if only I were as enlightened as them...!

hippie is just another label created by a system that uses labels to oppress people that disagree with it. The media slapped that word on a youth movement from the '60s to manipulate "middle-America" through fear and DIVIDE the population to better control it.
from what i've googled, the actual origin of the word is speculated to be anything from an opium smoking refference from the early 1900's to the West African Wolof language word hipicat meaning ?one who has his eyes wide open? (hence also hepcat)

O.K. so they place less of a value on materialistic things and luxuries, opting instead for a more basic and honest lifestyle. Your problem with them is?

The hippy hippy shakes, what you get when you pump a fat needle of heroin.
Hippies evolved into the punk movement, and shits never been the same since.

I'm saying that, sure they existed alongside eachother BUT One begat the other and out of it when the 80s started rolling out, and the dust cleared we were given the Punks, and the Neo-Hippies. Close cousins in the social family tree.

1. Everyone needs to stop looking at labels. We're ALL FUCKING HUMANS.
2. If everyone was the same, life would suck, and we would all be dead. So appreciate diversity.
3. If you hate "hippies" because of some menial social differences then THE MAN successfully has you in his game. Their game is to separate the masses and create factions and hate between them through ignorance. Congrats.
4. Hippie is a state of mind, not the clothes you wear or the car you drive.
5. Sorry Doc J.. you're my man.. but you're the one that sounds self-righteous and pretentious here. Stop the hate man.

Seems like not too much progress towards open-mindedness with the country folks afterall I'm afraid..
Not too much progress towards open mindedness with the human race really. Just how many shit kicking hicks do you know? I grew up around em. I spent my time getting stoned, wasted and occasionally coked out with rednecks, mexicans and indians. We were all fairly open minded.

I love music, but people too often put musicians on WAY too high a pedestal.

All those shit kicking hicks know how to have a good time, no matter what is at hand.
What makes humans weird is how we try to classify things to make the brain understand and be at rest.
But most of the time its just an illusion of the actual truth that we are all in essence the same no matter how we dress or how we see ourselfs and act.
Normaly we make it out to view our own entities as above others, thats often a big problem.....
