It's alright... It will definately take longer, and alot more people get problems with them stalling out, but they do work. I pretty much only used pints for pf cakes and didn't have too many problems.

i like to use the 1 pint jars because i get more pins and yeild. also better for casing than if you use the tiny 1/2 pint jars. I agree with the above that you can also have more contamination issues with them due to the longer colonization times.

you don't get more pins per yeild because one pint = 2 1/2 pints haha. if you can go for double the number of half pint jars. since they cononize faster since there is less subtrate. you end up with the same amount of subreate and therefor same yeild but you get it faster for PF jar-wise.

ah yes but you could put in half the number of spores and still have colonization.
or just do LC's and not really have to think about the word 'save'

1 pint jars with a tyvek lid and a dab of silicone, I recently found out, works wonders. I had NO IDEA that colonization would be so fast on WBS. My 1 pint jar is 80% colonized in just 4 days! I say it doesn't matter...1 or 1/2 pints. Just depends on your sterilization methods and PC space.

Quart size... duh? Use quart sized with 1 bigger hole and 1 smaller hole in the the lid, tyvec over it, and a coffee filter.
Fill it up about 3/4 full with substrate, add tyvec, pressure cook, add coffee filter, incubate
Whenever jar is 20% or so colonized, wash your hands, remove the ring + tyvek, cover the 2 holes with your fingers, and shake the jar up like crazy.
Repeat at 50%, 75%, or whenever it looks good for shakin (you get a feel)
Using grain (rye or wbs) i colonize in about 10 days so far...

Man...I don't know. All I did was instead of using the metal plate that comes with the jar as part of the lid, I substituted it with a pice of tyvek and that's it. My colonization is so fast from an LC that I don't even have to shake. I know that in one week exacly, my jar will be 110% colonized.
