San Francisco, late, late season

This has been a smashing, stupendous season this year. Just wonderful. This is mostly raw photos from today for now, I can explain more later, but most here are Stropharia raparia, and some come with a view of the bay, prime waterfront view, no deposit and no electricity.
The cyan patch shown is on it's 3rd fruiting!, and now just 20 feet away, some cross cyans/friscosas have appeared. Both places are getting much larger. These rains are making many patches get alot bigger, even if they aren't fruiting right now. Wait till next year
Unbelievable season around the San Francisco Bay this year. This is the grand season finale during the next few weeks, in color! also [))((] in stereo where available [))((]

enjoy >>>>

Yes, luck is part of it. We are lucky to get so much rain so late, but others don't feel lucky when their house slides down the hill :P
More importantly, it's just spending the time and effort to go out and look, and it takes hours and hours, days and days, months and months...I've been hunting the bay area for over 20 years now, and I still feel lucky
For the Bay Area folks, here's some suggestions. What you are seeing in these photos is part of the Bay Trail, maybe not exactly on it, but alot of times close by. This is an area of trails circling the bay, literally, and it's mostly for walking, jogging, and bicycles (like me) It (theoretically) circles the entire bay area, on the shoreline, and is over 400 miles long.
As you can see, parts of it are covered in woodchips. Again, you will never see this unless you get out of your car, and walk, run or bike
You cannot access many of these areas by car, and many places, you can't even park within a mile of these places in the photos...hehe...You're going to get some excercise if you want to see alot of these places in person, whether you like it or not, and that is the best part
And here's a little secret. It has been known by these park officials for some time, that the best way to preserve the Bay coastal area, like in these photos, is to dump woodchips as landscaping. Why?, because woodchips are already decomposable, they generally prevent weeds and other invasive plant species from growing, and you don't have to dump more expensive chemicals. Which is just perfect for mushrooms like psychedelics
as we say in chess, 'check mate'
If you look closely at my photos above, you'll see that it is on the San Francisco penninsula, just south of SF about 30 miles. The photos encompass a 20 mile journey on a bike, along the Bay Trail and areas nearby you would *maybe* never guess...This, for those who live here, is almost the polar opposite of the Richmond finds(geographically), so you can see now, that it does in fact, occur all over the BAY!
My advice for those who actually live here in the San Francisco Bay Area is >>
promote the Bay Trail, website here > http://baytrail.abag.ca.gov/
It IS a California government website and look at the map and overview and you will see. You see it for yourself (the above photos), they are dumping woodchips all over the place.
There's a huge number of woodchip piles stacked up around the bay these e days...I've seen some of them over 100 feet high because it's too expensive for landfill/private companies, tree cutters can't figure out what to do with them since they can't dump it along side the road, which is illegal, but shouldn't be. Woodchips?..no...Coca cola cans? yes.
But now, for the first time, some of this government, parks, recreation, private tree cutting companies are starting to see there is a mutual benefit here
Need I say more?.....write them an email....support it
In closing, it's not just hunting, but also being involved with your local parks, government..Don't just stand there, do something!
hehe

Unreal!!
Cyans found on April 13th.
Keep the photos coming. I wonder just how long the season can last down there. I think this is already a record for the latest finds ever posted on this message board.
Congrats!

Yeah, that one was bigger than my helmet. No idea what kind that was tho. Definately one of the bigger ones I've seen around here. Man, if cyans ever get that big, run for your lives...hehe

Hey you have a good eye for detail there. You are very close. It is a member of the same stinkorn family, see the MSSF photo >
http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/species/Clathrus_ruber.html
Only three in that family around here > http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/skey/stinkhorn.html
Your stinky squid is the first one > http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/species/Clathrus_archeri.html
And they are also all over the Bay Area right now, along with the Strophrias, and they do stink. Yesterday when it was warming up, the flies were having a party around these stinkhorns

this might be the last of the 2005/2006 season. It's getting pretty dry out there now. But what a season it has been
