Casing Q

Is there ANY way of avoiding overlay using 60/40 verm coir casing?
It's good for monitoring casing moisture level but otherwise, the myc seems obsessed with growing in a vegetative state despite me doing all the things required for pinnig. Lower temperatures 12/12 lighting, higher humidity etc.
I'm thinking that I'll just have to case and put it straight into the the FC, giving it a coldshock too...
I literally cannot get proper Calcium carbonate anywhere, even the pharmacy pills are laced with Vitamin D and other questionable ingredients.

i can kinda relate. i'm on my first grow and i am doing a 60/40 verm coir casing. I have seen the mycelium start to prick up in places which makes me hopeful that it will start pinning soon, but it seems to be taking a very long time to get any real progress. its been in the fruiting chamber at a lower temperature, light, high humidity and yet its taking ages!
i'm not sure but i think i read somewhere that if you don't fan out the carbon dioxide so the mycelium doesn't grow as fast and pinning is encouraged. i'm not sure so don't quote me on it.
good luck

IME, only incubating until the very first signs of myc peeking through and then fruiting will prevent overlay 99.999% of the time. The only drawback is, it may add a day or two to the fruiting time.

You can even initiate fruiting when the myc is just under the surface (not visible). Or switch to a peat based casing mix which IME is superior in every way!

why is peat better?? ...less nutrients so the myc stops veggie growth sooner??

When you case, try putting foil over your containers and then several containers into a larger tub with a lid. The O2 level will drop. No peeking. After 3-4 days pull and fruit. Just an idea

For the most part yes.

My cambo casings took 8 days to pin after I placed it in the FC. After I cased it, I threw it back in my TiT for 3 days and myc was just starting to show on the surface. Kept the humidity high and temps between 68-75 F.
