No, DJ Tiesto is a dutch DJ. He also has a couple of aliases like Gouryella (w/Ferry Corsten) or Veracocha (w/Vincent De moor I think). If you listen to trance you have probably heard some of his stuff. He remixed Delirium's remix of Sarah Mcglaughlin's Silence. If you want to check his stuff out I recommend downloading Magik 6: Live in Amsterdam, it's an awesome set. Seeing him live was pure euphoria. -Coz
p.s. He's not the guy in the matador suit, but I would definately like to see that guy.

what ever happened to tiesto? hasn't seen him around the dutch circuit for some time. he's good, but more hype than anything else (IMO) Are all his records scratched? never seen him come off a set completely clean!
Also, I'm not a big fan of giving out $30-$45 to go to some overrated ID+T party with 25,000+ people and piss and puke carpeted floors.
There are many more enlightening enlightening musical things to check out especially if you happen to be in The Netherlands i.e. go check out a goa party in Amsterdam. The vibe is always wonderful, most of the people are genuinely nice, and there will be other trippers there. a good enviornment
There is a good drum and bass scene in Holland. mostly drug-free too! (don't know about a'dam)
If you're looking for something a little more intense. See if you can hook up with some hardcore dutch squatters, to check out a teKno party. There is almost always one every weekend, and it's always free. It's usually an adventure in itself finding one. Held in various squatts and abandoned builbings. The music is very very hard and aggresive, and you can find literally any party drug you desire (even though I'm not recommending this) I've even seen people cooking and selling mush tea!
Oh yeah and I wouldn't recommend anyone to go a public dance event tripping unless they are somewhat sure of themselves. though i must admit, there is nothing like dancing, and tripping your nutts off.

That's too bad that you think he's sold out. But to each his own. I have definately heard that Amsterdam is the place to go to goa parties. Tiesto is still fairly new in the US. I will admit that a lot of his production gets really played out (i.e. his remix of sarah mcglaughlin's silence). When I saw him last friday his set was flawless. Also, I have seen on his bookings that he plays in the Netherlands a lot. He played a nine hour set there about a month or two ago, I think, pretty recently at least. I just think he always puts really good sets together. I just hope that he doesn't sell out like a lot of DJ's. Also one of the big reasons that he's so expensive to go see has a lot to do with the venues he plays. The one I went to was in New York which is always way too expensive. You seem to know your music. Have any reccomendations? The other two dutch DJs I really like are Ferry Corsten and Armin Van Buuren (or is he german?). Oh well, thanks for the comments. -Coz

Armin is Dutch, and Ferry is an excellent trance DJ and Producer. My alltime favorite trance set is Ferry corsten live at Innercity 99. and I have to give tiesto credit for some of his productions, Flight 643 is nice, and Silence is still amazing. It and Sasha's Xpander are the only trance records i have!
There is a big difference in the dance scenes in the Netherlands and in the States. These Dj's have definately sold out here. Trance and dance is, and has been very very mainstream here.
As for up and coming DJ's look out for Johan Gielen, he's riding the ID+T money machine at the moment, you have probally heard some of his tracks under the name Svenson and Gielen. (most friendly DJ I've ever met!)
The Dutch party scene is getting harder and harder. I went to a party last weekend with some friends called Trance energy.
http://www.id-t.com/pictures.php?pictureID=19&pg=10 (Some Pics, That pic is of Gielen)
They should of called it Hard Trance Energy, by 2a.m. the hard trance hall, main trance hall, and club trance hall, were pumpin nothing but strong ass hard house bass. the Line up was http://www.id-t.com/article.php?newsID=227 (Scroll to bottom) (Looks like I did shell out 35$ to go to a party with 35,000 people, and puke and piss carpeted floor!)
The German hardhouse DJ Gary D seems to be really popular with the peeps here. Marco V was ripping it up here for a while as well. Can't really think of any other trance DJ's right now.

Yeah, Johan Gielen is a really good DJ. I saw Svenson and Gielen play in japan with Ferry Corsten spinning right after them. Trance is going mainstream in the US, but most people only know a few like Oakenfold who I really don't like. The crazy thing about Svenson and Gielen is they weren't spinning, they were playing live off synthesizers and stuff. In the states the trance scene divides into ultra mainstream commercial and not. Right now Tiesto teeters on the line. I still don't see him as commercial, but a lot of his production has become that way. I reccommend Magik 5, Magik 6: Live in Amsterdam, and in search of sunrise 2. Also if you can get a hold of Ferry Corsten: Trancedome I definately reccomend it. Unfortunately, you can only get it in japan. I didn't realize the netherlands had much of a drum and bass scene. I just got back from Japan and the scene is starting to get bigger there because of the infusion of australians. Well, it was good talking to you. Actually, now that you said it, I missed my chance to just see johan gielen spin without svenson when I was in Tokyo, now I wish I had gone. -Coz
p.s. check out Tiesto's remix of Dave Mathews Band, The Spaces Between. Oh yeah, and can you make any reccomendations for Goa trance DJ's to check out and european house DJs. I think the best american DJ is a techno DJ named Ritchie Hawtin aka Plastikman. check him out.

That must have been pretty wild seeing them spinn in Japan. I'd love to get to go to Tokyo. If you're in to traveling you should go check out Ibiza. It's a mad little party island. Only the best european house dj's coming through.
The Drum and Bass scene here in Holland isn't really that huge though. But we do get alot of good names coming through. Our local club holds maybe 150 people max, and they booked Dom + Roland for this weekend! And Matrix next month. Some kid was saying a japanese dj is flyin in the month after. I'm Stoked for that.
I've actually seen hawtin spinn a couple o times, he's Hella bigg here. Plastikman? isn't that his label 2
I couldn't really tell you which Goa dj's to look out for
Some of my fav live Dj's are Timo maas, Dave Clarke, Sasha, Michel de Heij, Remy, Billy Nasty. Ferry Corsten. The Basement Jaxx are great live. Sander Kleinenburg is another loved trance Dj here
Oh and this weeks set is daft punk alive 1997
DJ's to check out? Maybe some tracks to check out. Joy Kitikonti - Joyenergizer radio and psico mixes. Derb -In Africa john b - brazil salsa The big hit here right now is PPK resurection (space club mix) nice melody. iio - rapture, Silverblue - Step Back (Silver Bullet Remix) is a great trance song.
I'd really like to here that remix of the space between

I like PPK - resurection, it's a good song, kind of eerie though. I just have one more question for you, how do you pronounce the name Tijs. Thanks. -Coz
