What works the best for liquid culture; honey? Malt extract and all that business if you don't get it at a homebrew shop where the heck else could I find dextrose or malt extract ... just wondering.

honey works fine, i have also successfully used pancake syrup.

L. malt extract + dextrose at a 3-4% solution, nothing compares for LC's. Not sure where you'd find it without a homebrew store, that's where I get mine. As a backup, real maple syrup works very well, better than Karo/Honey IME.
