Ok, i have 5 pints of WBS I want to case.... that is the only thing about wbs, you basically have to case it.... well i was thinking since i am still new to caseing and i am NOT going back to cakes, if i used an unsterlised top / bottom layer of verm do you think that my tex. go in that? or should i sterlise it?
second i am going to try 60/40 one more time and maybe pick up some jiffy mix to mix it up a little.
One last thing, has anyone done a DT w/ coir instead of hpoo?

I like jiffy mix too Bird seed doesn't really make a good fruiting sub. I cased wbs in jiffy mix once, and ended up spawning it to Bird seed is good for spawn, rice is good for fruiting (cased is much better than cakes, imo) And verm casing is hard to manage, but the coarse stuff is a little easier. Simple solution, use jiffy mix I add a little hydrated lime, it aborts less.

Verm works great for a casing layer... Only drawback i have found is you have to clean your mushrooms pretty good to get the verm off of the stems. Ive heard jiffy mix works good, but the PH is still a little off. G/L

Crushed oyster is good, but it is a long term buffer. It will take longer to neutralize the peat, and hold it longer. Where hydrated lime is a short term buffer, it will immediately neutralize and lose it's effect shortly thereafter. I used both the first time, but I don't keep a casing around long enough to worry about it.
