First Pick?!?!

Today I picked the first shroom off my grain cake, I picked it right after the veil tore from the cap, and consumed it.. what an experience, the trip was simply insane, I didn't scale the weight out but I did it on a balance beam and it was about 20 grams wet, with a fat stem. Question is, theres tons of pins growing on my cake , and theres pins that are like 1 inches tall with white mycelium growing on the stem, and theres one shroom, that is just taking off, mid size stem with a small cap. Should I just keep picking the mature ones, or pick all the 1 inch pins too?

I'd pick it all after most mature. Typically the others abhort and get ready for the second flush.

I usually harvest as they mature....I think most people do as well. I just watch that i'm not disturbing any of the immature ones. In my experience most of the fruits mature at around the same time so picking those quicker ones sooner than the rest shouldnt be a problem. And those quicker ones from what I understand take nutrients from the other still developing ones so as they mature is probably best anyway.

Are those little pins still growing? They may be aborts...

Theres a few that are getting a little bigger everyday, but the ones on the top of the cake seem to be doing nothing and the caps on the pins are turning dark....

that's a good-sized shroom for a cake. I'd bet that most if not all of the smaller shrooms are aborts. You can kind of tell when the caps are small, conical and darker than the rest. also, they'll stop growing. I'd pick the whole thing, dunk and wait for the second flush.

So I should pick all the dark colored caps, and leave the one growing at the bottom as well as the other two pins that I see growing pretty fast? Also the shroom I picked today was ingested between two people and all I can say is wow , what a trip, I never thought that sized shroom would be so potent. Will the aborts still be potent?

More psilocin and psilocybin is produced during the early stage growth than their is in later growth (or so I've read). So by weight the aborts should be the most potent mushrooms you grow. You'll just have to eat a lot of em.
