Directly on perlite?

Hey guys, I have a grow going right now (growlog) and I was wondering if I should have my growbag cakes directly on the perlite, or on pieces of plastic. I have noticed some water accumulating on the plastic that they are sitting on... but I wasn't sure if they should sit right on the perlite. Please check out my setup and let me know how I can improve it. Thanks in advance

hmmm... how would I suspend the chicken wire within the chamber? and space is pretty cramped as it is... Is it actually bad for them to sit on the perlite? will they contam?

When I had cakes sitting directly on the perlite the only change I found the only adverse effect was water logged shrooms. Not a big deal really.
I doubt they will contams. cakes don't contam much, you practically gotta TRY to contaminate them.

i found that the weight of the cakes were to much for the wire, so i went to a pizza shop and said i needed those little table looking things they put in the box to support the cover for my little sister's school project(they look like miny tables for a doll house). i got about 10, cut the legs down half way, and siliconed them to the bottom of my FC. put the wire on top of that....no more problem!!!

Directly on is fine, just dont over saturate the perlite or else the cakes will become water-logged. Cakes on damp perlite is sometimes beneficial considering it rehydrates the cakes.

As for the chicken wire suspension question, just cut it a bit oversized and bend the edges down a bit so it forms the same shape as a tablecloth that's hanging over the sides. Bingo. Instant stand.

I've seen several grow logs with cakes directly on pearlite, and they always seem to produce nice flushes... Personally though I place in a wire screen

IMO it would be best to just elevate them from the perlite as this can log the cake or mushrooms... It's easy to just sit the cakes on top of mason jar lids.
**edit - pardon me... I didn't notice that you solved the issue
glad you did though
