I tried this thing for the first time and i think I might have screwed it up. First, i used boiling water with salt added to sterilize the jars, then i waited about 45 minutes to let them cool and poured cold water on the outside of the jars, then inoculated them. What do you think my chanes are of a successful inoculation?

Probably zero because all your substrate was still very hot and will kill the spores!
Next time let the jars cool down over night. Also, I'm pretty sure Salt is not necessary.
But who knows, crazier things have happened so maybe one or two of your jars will be alright. It also depends on your procedure during inoculation. For example Alcohol or Flame Sterilization for the needle and what type of environment your working in...

It's hard to say... Salt isn't needed why did you do it? You should let them cool fully. Even if you poured cold water on the outside of the jars, they might still be way too hot inside. Maybe cool to the touch, but still too hot inside. The only way to know is to wait and see how they do.

salt seems like a good idea because it makes the water's boiling point go up like pressure in a PC does. its not such a good idea once you think it through... the steam is what does the sterilizing - first from the boiling water, and second from the moisture in your jars. the moisture in your jars doesn't have salt, so inside will never go above normal boiling temp. the steam off the salt water in the kettle will still be normal boiling temp too, because salt doesn't evaporate with it. nice try, but it doesn't help :-)
you're lucky the jars didn't crack when you poured cold water on them, but since they didn't maybe they were on the cooler side already, and maybe the cold water cooled the exterior of the jar enough that your spores still got a chance. good luck, but heed the advice next time and let it cool slowly and naturally, overnight is best, still in the kettle, still with your foil on. warm = expanded air, cooling = contracting air. as they cool, they suck air back in. when you try to speed up cooling outside of the sterile kettle environment, you're sucking in possibly contaminated air.
