Can a smart shroomer help me out please......

Ok heres my situation
My PF-Tek cubensis jars have basically stopped its colonization. They were around 3/4 colonized, then for about 10 days now they've grown a couple millimeters since. Its been 29 days since my jars have been injected.
About a week ago I took the adivce from someone to remove my outer tin foil cover and put a coffee filter over the 4 holes on top of the lids to allow the mycelium to exchange CO2 and bring in oxygen.
Since I've done that, the mycelium pretty much hasn't grown.
So I'm gonna birth the cakes now since they won't resume their mycelium growth.
How should I approach doing this?
I know that I have a great chance of getting a contam on my cakes since their not fully colonized.
Do I basically just give the cakes lots of light, and a cold shock to help start the cakes start pinning?
Any help is greatly appreciated

Don't do that, that'd be most, well, just dont
I'd flip the jars over and put a thick layer of toliet paper or paper towels down.
Sounds like you've got a bit of a co2 build-up..Just flip them and you should be fine.
You left the tin lids on though right?...RIght?...:P

Oh my bad, I just read that you want to birth them
If you don't want to try flipping them (Positive it will work)...
Then cut off the uncolonized parts and then fruit like that and you should be completely fine. Once you cut off the uncolonized part, you've pretty much got a 100% colonized cake. And colonized cakes are pretty damn contam. resistant.

For that week I put the coffee filters over my jars, I did flip them upside down, and yeah no positive results since
But I'm gonna try birthing them the way you just mention, but let me get a few things straight here
How do I cut the uncolonized parts off? If I did that my cakes would just all crumble to peices

If I cut the uncolonized area of the cakes, I'll just have a bunch of indents in my cake, and there still would be no mycelium over that part
I don't quite understand what you guys mean by cutting the uncolonized parts

Use a VERY sharp blade like say a razor blade (properly sterilized) to trim em up. You want to SlIcE through them, not CrUsH through them.

Hmmmm...Pf tek cakes don't "crumble", unless they're REALLY dry...
Well sounds like you've got something in there you don't want..Whether or not it's some sort of contam. or moisture issue ....
But if you've got 3/4ths or so colonized, then you should be fine regardless...
Just put some alchy on a knife and go at it...Lol.
Or wash your hands really well, then break it off...It's really up to you...Don't really need a super way of doing it like wbs grains and such, just simply seperate the uncolonized from the colonized.

if you just kind of scrape away at it you will eventually get to a part of the cake that is colonized by mycelium

So what your saying is that there is mycelium grown inside of the cake, and that I just have the cut off the uncolonized parts untill I reach the mycelium inside of the cake?

You're starting to confuse me now.
Quote:
They were around 3/4 colonized
And now you're saying

Are your cakes colonized somewhat or not at all?
I'm saying take the CAKE out of the JAR...Then CUT off the UNCOLONIZED parts.
BTW, the caps aren't because i'm yelling, just trying to make key points...I'd use color, but,...

Yes my cakes are abour 3/4 colonized, but heres what I don't know
Is there mycelium inside of my cakes? Because I thought mycelium only grew on the outside of the cakes
And since I thought mycelium was only on the outside of the cakes, I figured that if I cut my uncolonized parts off, there would still be the same uncolonized parts and I would have a cake full of indents and still 3/4 colonized
But is this what your trying to explain to me. "If I cut the uncolonized parts off, I will reach mycelium that is inside my cake, therefore I now have a cake with a bunch of indents but it is now 100% colonized, and is ready for birthing"

OOOOOooooo I see.
Well you never really know until you cut through it. I think the inside is more than liekly all the way through.
If your cake ends up kind of falling apart or has to many indentions...Make it into a casing ...More fruits that way anyways...
You have quite a few cakes, why not try something new out?
My bad for jumping the gun and thinking you were retarted .

Lol I appreciate your help, both of you
And I am pretty much a newbie when it comes to growing mushrooms. I've only grown around 30 cakes so far, in about a 6 month period. And I've never cut inside of my cake before, so thats why I never knew there was mycelium grown all inside of the cakes
But yeah I'm just gonna birth my cakes now instead of casing them. I plan on casing in a couple months. But yeah one more thing. To get the cakes to start pinning, do I just give the cakes plenty of light, and give them a cold shock while they are in my fruiting chamber?
