I think of this part in a novel I read once, "Hotel New Hampshire" by John Irving. This kid misunderstands his mother and hears that he should be careful of the "undertoad" when he was playing in the ocean. So now I picture this big-ass toad lurking under the waves, just waiting to suck you down...
I also think of sun and sand and horizons and sunsets (or sunrises, depending on the ocean) and vacation and good times and vastness and how small I really am.

I thought that was from "The World According To Garp" but I'm probably wrong. It's a great image though. Sea monster stories are always interesting.
