hydrating casing material with pH adjusted water?

I have some pH up and down, I was thinking if I hydrated some 50/50 peat/vermiculite with pH adjusted water I could lower or raise the pH of the mix. Assuming this would change the pH level, I guess you'd just have to experiment to find the right amount of pH down to use with certain amounts of peat/verm.
Any opinions on this? Do you think this would work at all?

Nope,
pH up - 30% potassium hydroxide pH down - 30% phosphoric acid
for use with hydroponic nutrient solutions, to adjust the pH.
I noticed that if you take a rockwool cube and soak it in adjusted water it changes the pH so I thought this may work for a casing layer, too.

Yes, it's definitely safe.
You can use either pH up/down for hydroponic systems; or pH up/down for the fish/aquarium hobby.

It'd work, but the question is why do you want to do it? Some crushed oyster shell will work perfectly as a pH buffer.

Sorry to bump this thread yet again, but I am broke currently and can't obtain oyster shell. In future grows; oyster shell. For this one; ph up.

Baking soda is a cheap way to raise/adjust the pH of your water.
