2 questions??
    #5533635 - 04/19/06 01:28 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

#1- bottom casing layer. i know you can use vermiculite for the bottom layer but i used a thin layer of 50/50 mix instead. are there any drawbacks to this? and could it ever be bebeficial to flip a casing like this after a flush maybe to give things a new surface to grow from (maybe because of scarring after harvest or something)

#2- i have some cakes that are going to be ready for birth before i have room in my FC. can i just put em in the fridge to stall growth?

1. The sole purpose of the bottom layer is to provide additional moisture. It does not matter what the bottom layer is composed of, so long as it is capable of holding and delivering adequate moisture. However, with proper casing maintenance and hydration a bottom layer is not necessary at all.

2. Yes. Keep the jars well sealed to prevent drying.

2. If you want to keep them for a short time (a week, max 2), keep them in a dark cool place. If its for longer just seal them good with nylon warp and into the fridge.
worked for me in the past.
