When I think of the ocean, I remember the way it feels like the earth is breathing with the rushing tides.
Swooshing and misting beautiful.
As a poet I find swooshing to be an excellent adjective

'Borked' is another handy adjective. It's a catch all, in that it can be applied to so many things.

When I think of the ocean I immediately think of one of two places that I've really enjoyed being at:
1- Santa Monica Pier 2- Captain Cook's Cove (great place to go snorkeling in Hawaii)
Then again, I generally tend to think of hawaii in general when I think of the ocean. The local californian beaches and ocean views just can't compare to what I got to experience during that vacation

For me I think of seagulls gliding above and seagull cries, a tremendous vastness as already mentioned, sounds of waves hitting the shore, and I feel a strange mixture of love and fear connected to it.

When I think of the ocean I think of LSD. I am back at the beach at midnight standing on the sand, staring at the waves as they come up to meet my feet and then quickly recede back to where they came from.
I see the complex and intricate designs that is formed by water running through the sand, and the amazing feeling of digging your feet under the sand.
I am standing in the ocean, water to my chest. As I turn and face the shore, there are beautiful radiant lights stretching down the coast in both directions for as far as i could see. Upon turning around, I see what is known as infinite.
I've had mind blowing experiences at the ocean, so the ocean makes me think about life.

When I think about oceans, I think about the past, when the first land-dwelling creatures came crawling up out of them.
I think about the present; all of the underwater life and its' beauty and its' ugliness and the great abundance of seafood we acquire from it. Also, the moon crosses my mind as its' gravity causes the tides. I think about the dangers of venturing the enormous bodies of water with all of nature's fury and her predators. I think of the peace that can be found in a safe and successful venture of the deep.
And lastly, I think about the future, when the polar caps melt and the oceans will all be one and land will be almost obliterated.

Yummmm... Garlic smashed potatoes - new red potatoes boiled in the skin and smashed with garlic cloves sauteed in olive oil and plenty of butter and a bit of light cream and a little milk added. OMG!

an ocean scene that i created for the sole purpose of attaining lucidity in my dream state (i was trying to guide my dream so that it did one thing over another so that i would recognize it)
sad, no
no real beach could compare to the one i imagined... and i only imagined it, i didnt get to experience it in my dream (consciously at least)

I think of this part in a novel I read once, "Hotel New Hampshire" by John Irving. This kid misunderstands his mother and hears that he should be careful of the "undertoad" when he was playing in the ocean. So now I picture this big-ass toad lurking under the waves, just waiting to suck you down... I also think of sun and sand and horizons and sunsets (or sunrises, depending on the ocean) and vacation and good times and vastness and how small I really am.

I thought that was from "The World According To Garp" but I'm probably wrong. It's a great image though. Sea monster stories are always interesting.
