Here is the first post in a thread I read in MR&P.
Quote:
Why are you an athiest? Theres alot of supporting evidence that god or some higher being is real, and there is an afterlife. But what evidence is there that he is not real and there is no afterlife? What logic is there behind athiesm?
Im not an atheist, but I was Wow-ed by this post for two reasons.
1) This isnt a serious question. Meaning that it isnt a real inquiry, an unbiased yearning for answers alternative to your POV. This post would not be allowed if the point of the post was reversed to be asking the same of christianity or any other religion. his whole post is like me asking someone "why are you such a fucking dumbass" and then not allowing them to argue the fact whether or not I am a dumbass, but force them to either answer the question in an either/or fashion- and then expect to get a serious answer......
2) The poster makes their (false) assumptions regarding reality out to be fact and questioning why in the face of all this undisclosed "proof" supporting their statements you could assume/believe something contradictory to it.

I personaly dont beleave in god. I beleave in the laws of thermal dynamics, I beleave in evolution.
But i dont make it a point to voice my opinions as any more factual then anyone elses.
Though i may think to myself often that people are stupid

wanna try again? This thread isnt about what you believe in, it is about the actions and mechanics of a poorly written post and my opinion of it being unethical as well as teetering on the edge of baiting an argument in MRP.

actually, i stated a question, as well as quoted it. I did not howeve ask a question. But a question need not be the sole catalyst for discussion of a topic to ensue, pure disagreement/agreement can do that.

Yes, an old method, some users here seem to like especially Make a false statement, what is only opinion-based (ie. mysticals are dumbasses) and then ask, why one could be a mystic. You see here, this tactic is interchangeable (atheists are dumbasses) and I think, this tactic is called 'baiting', isn't it ? It is better to present the 'fact' as his own opinion and then ask, how can one come to a different opinion. That is almost everytime what's behind those baiting questions.

First of all, what you quoted does not even deserve to be reproduced in another thread. Second and in reply to bluecoyote, I can't believe that there are people here who are doing that!!! Even if psilocyberin did not mean to do it, for you saying that there must be more than one instance. As I said in one of my previous posts, people here like to play with words and many times don't care about the point as long as they don't loose their "reputation"...

Science maybe? Logic? Thinking for yourself and not what youve been taught by others who want you to believe it?
Im just answering the question. Agnostic here. Something more may exist, but I see no evidence of it that cant be explained by simple logic. Something may not exist...but then youve got religion. Something established thousands of years before any of us where even here.
