i have plenty of vertical space in my FC, if i want to cram as much casing as i can into it how deep can a casing be? i have seen pictures of casings in those big coffee cans so it seems they can be pretty deep. theres gotta be a point where too much is too much. thanks for the help.

uhhhhhhh not casing you are taling about substrate depth. don't bother with much over 4 inches your fruits won't be any larger. anyhoo the more surface area the more fruits you get each flush so i stick to shallow substrates.

well yeah, i guess substrate thickness is more specific but i thought the finished product, casing + substrate is still called a casing. thanks again.

oh it is but when you are talking about depth you are talking substrate depth not casing depth. casing depth is somewhere around 1/4 - 1/2 inch ish.

Yea, You do not want a casing depth of anything more than 1/2 to 1 inch!
If you are actually talking about substrate, then like it was said above, anything over 4 or so inches isn't going to make that much of difference.
A good rule of thumb for casing depth is 1/4 your substrate depth if I'm not mistaken. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that
