Hey guys (and girls, of course),
A few days ago I started 2 LC's using _OttO_s "beginner friendly" method. I think it's been about 3 or 4 days by now. Sadly, for some reason unknown to myself, there seem to be 2 dead fruit flies floating around in one of them which I'm guessing could hinder the whole process. Really dont understand cause they wern't in there from the beginning and theres a double layer of aluminum foil over the top covering the hole... Nonetheless I've spotted one or two of those mycelium covered spores floating around in there so I have hope.
THe reason I'm posting is cause the other one I made is doing much better (hopefully) and I need you ppl to verify that for me. When all the stuff in there settles theres just a layer of some white buildup on the bottom which breaks up when shaken. I tried to take some pics after shaking it, but its incredibly hard to get a clear shot of the stuff...you can't really see how much of it there is from the pic. The reason I'm skeptical about it being mycelium is that the white mass, in its unshaken state, doesnt look like the pics Ive seen on here where you have like a big cottony cloudy ball floating in there.

If thiers a dead fruit fly inside of your jar then toss it, it wasnt sterilized correctly and you could be wasting good jars.

Well I understand the LC with the 1 or 2 dead fruit flies in it doesn't have much chance of succeeding, but I'm actually more interested in how the other one is doing. Thats why I posted the pics. Any ideas on that?

Yeah, I've had that cottage cheese instead of cotton candy, myself. Can't really tell you much, because I just chucked those and went with the fluffy ones. I assumed contam, but since I didn't try them, I don't know. If that's all you have right now, why don't you start a couple new LC jars and noc one up with the cottage cheese? I'm curious about that stuff, too. Let us know.
