Cheapest domain registrar?
    #5529034 - 04/18/06 11:27 AM (17 years, 9 months ago)

Hey,

I'm looking to register a domain name, and wanted recommendations on the cheapest possible place to register. I don't need DNS or hosting, just the domain name.

Any input would be much appreciated, thanks.

I just registered a domain with http://www.canaca.com/

Not sure if they're the cheapest but $10/year aint bad.

I recommend www.1and1.com for their low prices and free anonymous registration.

i wont use 1and1.com ever again. i had a problem a while back and they made it as hard as possible for me to resolve it.

since getting burned there, i have used www.gkg.net for everything i do. gkg has always done me right.

Interesting, cause we were thinking of moving the Shroomery domains there. Care to elaborate?

I've been using 1 & 1 for a few years now.
For the FSRC, and several other sites, for other people.
I've only had problems twice, and one of those my own fault (Credit card was maxed out, Hehehe)
The other time, I had trouble getting a shopping cart program for a client to work.
Their tech support spent over a hour with me on the phone to get it working properly.

I even promote their service with links on the FSRC site... Hint, Hint, Ythan

i took them up on the free offer they had early last year. then, when i figured out that i didnt need or use anything they were offering, i cancelledthe free account before my 90days were up so as to not get billed for anything further. during the time i was on their free trial i purchased a domain name with my own money through them. some 5 months later i wanted to point that domain name ot a different place and found that i was locked out of it. after contacting them they said i had a billing issue. turns out since i purchased a domain name, it restarted the free trial (which i was never informed of). after the time ran out i was billed for it. of course i wont pay for it because i cancelled it in the first place. i emailed them again with the whole story of what happened and that the account should have been cancelled in the first place. i got the bot responder saying that my complaint has been filed, but that was the last i heard. i have now written off the domain name as an expense. funny thing is, the day that the domain name was supposed to expire they registered it... no doubt they billed that to me also.

www.gkg.net on the other hand have been angles to me. no complaints at all against them. i have been with them for a year now and have many domain names with them.
