worried that shrooms are changing me
    #5528417 - 04/18/06 07:01 AM (17 years, 9 months ago)

ive had 2 experience with mushrooms so far and i plan tohave more. i went into the whole thing wanting to change and learn. well now they aer changing me but im not sure if its good or bad...

the major change i noticed after the 2nd experience was a profound appreciation for beauty. before when i saw something beautiful, i would of course look at it and that was about it. now when i see soemthing beautiful, or even something that is just simple, im enamoured with it. i recently went on a little mini vacation. one evening while the people i was with and myself were driving, we were descending a pretty big hill. the trees outside the window cleared and i could a pretty broad view of the city. it was gorgeous. lights floating out in a field of blackness. i paused, everything went in slow motion. i wanted to say "hey look everyone" but i didnt... i couldnt.

another weird thingy thats been happening is that im more sensitive to scary or freaky things. i play a lot of horror video games (though i cant stand horror movies because theyre just stupid), so im pretty 'desensitized' to weird stuff. after my second trip though (which was pretty bad for the first half) ive felt more suceptible to weird sounds and weird looking pictures etc. i mean im not scared, but i can actually feel something inside of me go 'eeww thats freaky' whcih is a total first.

so you can see stuff is changing. heres the problem: if these 2 things that ive noticed changing have happened... what more is going on taht i havent noticed? i know shrooms dont make you stupid like a lot of other drugs, but i just dont want any negative changes to happen to me. i really like who i am. on the other hand, i want to keep learning from mushrooms...

The way I see it as long as you want the shrooms to teach you positive lessons and try to enforce the positive lessons, they will be able to mask any possible negative effects they might have on you so they'll just go unnoticed if they're there at all...

Personally I can understand what you're saying though. I've always enjoyed looking at clouds. Just something about them. They hang there in the sky yet the look like big solid structures, they're so detailed, they're just amazing to me and always have been. After a few experiences with shrooms (I distinctly remember during my first experience taking a look at a cloud and seeing long beams of light flowing and extending out of it) I've started paying even more attention to things like this. There hasn't been a day that's gone by where I haven't checked what the cloud formations were like that day. Nothing's better than sitting on a crowded smelly streetcar and being able to look over the lake with the light reflecting off the building's windows in the city making the city look like it's made of crystal combined with the contrast of an orange sky while the sun sets. (well, I could do without the streetcar, but you get the idea).

Looks good to me. This is a very good thing. You are becoming less blocked. Your senses are opening up and you are beginning to awaken.

This indicates that you still have much to work through. Perhaps you do not see all people and things as equals? You should draw other's attention to a very nice day or thing to see. You can and will if you really feel like sharing beauty with your friends.

Do you really think anyone can tell you anything about how shrooms will change you? Honestly, most people can't even pinpoint all the things that have changed in them from shrooms. And you know, it doesn't really matter. An experience changes you, just like taking mushrooms do. One thing is for sure though, they do somehow help you see a good side of the picture and usually help you to embrace everything, not reject it. That is if you are doing things right.

i know what you mean. i used to never pay attention to trees, nature, sunsets, clouds, etc. these days i find myself staring into the distance at seemingly nothing often. i used to rush through everything and never stop to appreciate the simple things we overlook all the time. sometimes i think i see things like when i trip, but its very far away, like a distant memory that relates to what im doing right at that moment. when i smoke weed, it intensifies this a lot.

at the same time, all the negative shit out there sticks out a lot more to me. i think im just starting to see things for what they really are. i used to love horror movies and ive never been squeamish, but i wouldn't go see hostel or the hills have eyes. they look like the kinds of movies i used to love, but theres something in me now that just doesnt want to see people getting tortured and mauled.

i know people cant tell me definitivly whats happening to me, but the insight people can offer may help me to understand whats going on and vice versa. an appreciation for beauty and simplicity is obviously a good thing, but that doesnt mean thats all tahts changing.

i can see changes happening, but what is happening that cannot be seen?

the question is rhetorical of course since no one would know the answer, but i would like to hear the thoughts it provokes in each of you.

I've noticed similar things, but all around I enjoy it. I dont think having a renewed apprecation for nature/beauty/etc is a bad thing. We get conditioned in our lives so much to just look at the middle ground : ignore the bad, ignore the good, and just take on this sort of 'blaise, meh' type attitude.

I dont think expierencing a wider range of emotions / sensations / etc is a bad thing. I've noticed that since my drug-use in general (not just mushrooms), even when sober, I seem to expiernece 'higher highs' in my emotions, but in turn - I also hit some pretty low-lows at times.

To me, this is part of the human expierence, people need to explore a wider arrange of emotions/feelings, including the bad ones.

For example, for school I have been reading a book for school - Exquisite Corpse, most of the book didnt get much reaction out of me other than 'oh, a neat book'. Then, one day I did mushrooms, and the day after I started to finish reading the book : and the range of emotions/feelings/disgust/fear/anxiety I got while reading the book was something else. While they wernt 'nice' feelings - I wanted to throw the book at the author and yell at her for doing such horrible gross things to a character she had spent so much time building empathy towards, it was well - neat, and I dont regret it (I was upset for a day or two after reading the book, lol).

But, her point in getting the class to read the book? - to get that type of reaction out of them. It was for a Gothic Lit class, and back in the days when stories like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, or Frankenstine were written - people at that time, got REALLY offended/scared/disgusted over the books, but when we read those books now its 'hah, people were disgusted at that book?', but this book - sort of re-created much of the same feelings that they had back then, it shocked, it offended, it got physical responses out of the readers.

I had felt pretty much desenstized to the book for the entire time I read it, untill the day I read it after a mushroom trip.

mushrooms have changed me for the better. i have more patience and respect with and for people. i learned to accept everyone's differences and take everything into consideration. they have made me appreciate nature, as i didn't give a rat's ass before about it, and also gave me a appreciation for beauty. i am a much more caring person now and feel i have benefited greatly from this wonderful chemical we call psilocybin/cin.

it's good to stay away from violent culture.
garbage in, garbage out. YOU ARE what you expose yousrelf to.

you exposed yourself to mushrooms and so who you are is being realigned..... are video games even worth playing in the first place? Well think on that one I would ask of you.

and there is nothing bad about seeing beauty, either.

beauty =/= horror and violence.

well since ive gotten so many responses like this, let me clarify. i DO NOT think that the beauty thing is bad. I think its awesome!

the point i want to make is taht ive noticed this change, a positive one, but what changes may be happeneing that ive not noticed? will i wake up one morning and be a totally different person (for better or worse). i like who i am, and i like the new changes so far, but how do i know i will like what i become if i continue... when its too late?

make sense?

I had exactly that experience after my first trip that went a little bad in the second half. The weird thing was, it was looking at certain fractal artwork that would trigger these thoughts, like "Wooo... That's weirdly freaky.", almost like I could interpret something in them. I sat for an afternoon just browsing the web for fractal artwork because it was so interesting.

The effect will probably fade back to normal after a while though, say a month or two. It did for me anyways, and I don't get it now even after several subsequent trips.

After using mushrooms for a long time I just snapped. From then on everything is so very emotional. Not like normal emotions though. They have nothing to do with who I am personally.

I am a musician, and after a two day session with ayahuasca, I couldnt even play or listen to music for about 1/3rd of a year. It was just too emotional. Ive learned to enjoy this and as a musician its been for my own benifit. There is nothing like being able to feel what other musicians are playing in a way that is likely more intense than when they created the music you are listening to.
No matter what they were saying,(almost entirely instrumental) just got to me, HARD.... The beauty of everything was just everywhere, and with music it was most intense. I would cry while playing the guitar to a slow jazz tune. At first I thought, "what is wrong with me". Then I realized I just had everything in synch, and that this was a good thing. There is nothing like hearing music as words for ever after some psychedelic experience. Thats one of the many ways psychedelics changed me.

I personally find that the only drugs that release emotion like this are ayahuasca and mushrooms. The others do come close. But mushrooms and ayahuasca are so very different. Hhhmmmmmm...they also are the most alike experientially.

If you love jazz, or even if you are not into it. One of the greatest songs ever was created by a loving, heroin addicted, teddy-bear of a man named Art pepper(saxophone).. Its called our song, and speaks more clearly with music than any song I have ever heard. Its off of the album winter moon.... A musician's musician....
When I first heard it on a documentary, I watched him and his wife listen to the song together, and I felt their love. He wrote it for her. I teared up, and was so amazed by everything that was happening to me.

Best song ever............

shrooms have helped me so much

they took away over 3 years worth of horrible depression. they opened my eyes to life and nature. i took up gardening, turned vegetarian, began exercising daily, and love every bit of life. im a better person to others and to myself. i respect everyone and everything and when i see a beautiful tree i hug it.

they have also taugh tme so much about myself. i learned so many things abuot myself and traced some o fmy problems and parts of my personality back to my childhood. after a trip i had at a family gathering (nobody knew hehehe) i hung around a 3 year old cousin of mine and just watched her for half of the trip. it was so beautiful to see how she reacted to things and how everything in her young life will have a lasting impression on who she becomes down the road. these mushrooms open doors.
