Political Debates
    #5527545 - 04/17/06 11:19 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

I watched the first 20 minutes of the debate with the New Orleans Mayoral candidates and I have to say, I was bothered. Not by the candidates or what they said (it means nothing to me as I am in California) but the fact there were about 8 candidates at the debate. What bothered me was that the presidential debates are not the same. I would love to see more than 2 presidential candidates debate. It would expose people to more than 2 ideas. If both candidates blow (like in the last election) a lot of people would vote for "the lesser of two evils." I think people should vote on substance rather than lack of substance. Many of my friends who voted in the last election voted for Kerry because in their eyes he was BETTER than Bush, not because he was the BEST candidate. It bothers me. Agree, disagree, I am just a little upset.

Politics is always upsetting. I used to care about it alot, but now I don't. There should definately be more than two people in the debates, but when will that happen? The republicans and democrats make the rules. Neither of them wants their respective third party alternatives in the debates... It is so fucked up, but what can you do about it? What good does complaining about it, caring about it, or even paying attention to it do? I used to feel like somehow me caring about politics would make a difference, but it didn't and it never will. Having a political conscience is such a depressing waste of time.
