I really doubt they are oyster mushrooms. They look like they could be Psilocybe. See if they turn blue when you bruise them. That would be a sure sign that you have Psillys. Perhaps they just need a little fresh air and light to form normally. Set them near a window with a humidifier on. You could also put them in a cardboard box with a few holes to breath and a clear plastic lid for light. The next flush should look better. Keep experimenting and you will find a way to help them to grow. You are well on the way. Good luck. I like to put them outside on a thick bed of fresh chopped soaked wheat straw. Mulch the top with more straw. The straw mulch helps keep the humidity high. Keep them misted and they will grow into the straw and the dirt below. The temps outside have to be over 65 degrees at night.

:sigh: ANYthing that looks like that is NOT a cubensis mushroom. There have been a few cases of mislabeled syringes, rahz had a cubie grow produce mushrooms that were not cubensis (nor any "normal" edible).
a.) Do not expect to trip if you eat these mushrooms b.) Contact the vendor with an explanation and request for a replacement syringe c.) Start again.
Im sorry, but you are not cultivating cubensis right now.

BTW this is false. Bluing is ONE indicator of active alkaloids. There are several species that bruise blue that are inactive/inedible.

Coda Have you ever heard of "Occams Razor"? Yes there are other mushrooms that do bruise blue but not any cultivars. Boletus satanus and B appendiculatus also bruise blue but these are mycorhizzal mushrooms and are not cultivated. If you know of any other cultivars that bruise blue then please enlighten me. The bluing reaction is a SURE sign that you have Psillys. Let me know if they bruise blue. Then there is no doubt that you have the kind.

Your saying that its more likely that the mushrooms grew all uniformly deformed/genetically modified then the vendor simply mislabeling a syringe? I don't follow that "logic"

What I am saying is that the mushrooms are probably Psilocybe and the reason that they look weird is because of environmental factors such as too high humidity or lack of fresh air. Any mushroom grown under adverse conditions can look dramatically different from what is considered normal. For example compare enoki mushrooms compared to Flamulina velutipes grown in the wild.

Ive grown B+ right and Ive grown B+ wrong. Ive grown B+ with too little humidity, Ive grown B+ with too much humidity. Ive even grown B+ that were deformed due to Lysol exposure. NONE OF THEM LOOKED ANYTHING LIKE THOSE IN QUESTION HERE.
According to "Occam's Razor" the simplest explanation is the the vendor mislabeled a syringe.

Even a 1/2 inch substrate layer would not create mushrooms like this. Yes, they'd more than likely be short and skinny, but they would still look a lot more like cubensis than these do.
I agree that you should definitely not eat these, and contact the vendor

But coupled with poor enviornmental conditions? Maybe mrPiggy can tell us what happened to his other cakes? I still think they are cubensis. It would be nice if someone had a good explaination about why they would not be cubensis aside from "cubensis don't look like that" They can get pretty messed up when grown poorly. Is there anyone here who can positively identify them as any other species and give an explanation about why they are that species and not a poorly grown cube?

The simple explanation would be adverse environmental conditions. They look much closer to Psilocybe than Pleurotus. Both grow cespitose like those in the photo. I will wait for MrPiggy to let us know if they bruise blue or not. I bet they do.

They kinda look like oysters, but i grew "gods flesh" one time that looked similar, but bigger, and more golden/yellow. those were some weird shrooms, and i kinda dont think that this is the case. environmental you say???? hell no, unless they were grown on the moon or something. (i guess i could be wrong, but i have NEVER seen mutation THAT bad.) i'm very curious about how they bruise....hmmmm
Now that i think about it a little more they kinda' look like mini malabars, or maybe itty bitty pearl oysters.
