I saw some fruits today that have stems which start out rather small (in diameter) and grow fatter in the middle. Its almost like a balloon. I can post a pic if need be, but i was hopin someone would know what i was talking about.

I agree with optx. I dont really think those are gonna be a huge problem and to be honest I am less amazed at the wierd looking stems and more blown away by all those little mushies starting to pop up. All I can seem to think when I look at that pic is god damn, GOD DAMN. Good job man! Post more pics when they start to mature a little more.

Wow... what strain/casing method is that?
That's the nicest pinset I've seen in a long while.

Thanks guys!
I'm pretty sure they are thai strain...check out this other thai grow

unfortunately i had too many pins and they ALL aborted. Nothin like a couple oz's of aborts to ruin a good pinset

They look good none the less
Off topic yes, but I am rather curious now. What were conditions like? Or substrate/casing?

I've been using about a 2 - 2.5" h/poo substrate and jiffy mix casing layer. I'm becoming worried that my substrate is too thin. I keep getting good pinsets, but they don't mature like they should. Any suggestions?

I guess theres such a thing as too much of a good thing! You couldn't fit anymore pins if you wanted too! GL

Possibly add water right to the casing? Either spray heavy or pour some right on them. That w/b my guess. This looks like a question for Agar, Roadkill or someone like that.
That is one pinset though!

yo, in that first picture, those few bigger shrooms that are skinny then get fat, then get kinda skinny again - i believe that's a humidity fluctuation problem, might wanna check that out.

humidity, eh? I wish i had a hygrometer, but i've yet to buy one. I'm wondering if injecting some water into the casing will help, I just figured they were running out of nutes and not h20, thats interesting though...

What the hell am I doing wrong? I keep getting really good pinsets but horrible yields because of aborts. It seems like the smaller mushrooms in this bin haven't grown at all since they pinned. I don't know what to do, somebody please help me

I have a couple cakes right now that are thai lipa yai aand the stems look a lot like yours. Really goofy growth. I also have a couple cakes of B+ in the same FC and their stems and general shape is normal. Maybe the thai strain?

I dont know what your trying to do... win a beauty contest maybe? but if your pinset is good (Which it is) and your mushies are growing to maturity... who cares what they look like.. its not gonna affect thier potency

If you would have read the last page, you'd see that my main problem is the number of aborts in that pinset which aren't growing to maturity.

that has nothing to do with the wierd stems.. those are two seprate problems... i would say the abprt problem is caused by insuffeicent nutrients getting to the fruits.. Im not sayint the substrait doesnt have enough.. im would think that maybe with such a huge pin set the mycelium wouldnt have enough resources to transport the needed nutes..

I realize that it has nothing to do with weird stems, but instead of starting a new thread about the same grow I thought I'd continue with this thread. I'm sorry that i ventured away from the title.
Although I have been getting good pinsets, the first pins grow a little then stop, while second and third flush pins start forming. They never grow to maturity either. I'm sure that there are enough nutrients for a strong flush, so I'm thinking maybe it has to do with a lack of fresh air. I'm going to take the lid off one bin and hopefully see if that helps, we'll see if I can still keep up the humidity.

haha. I'm thinking you could maybe make your substrate depth a little deeper. That could help.
