Yeah one of those little nitro-powered deals.
I just started working in a shop that sells/repairs them, so I figured I should get one for myself so I know wtf people are talking about when they come in and ask me questions

Haha yeah, I used to love the things when I was little.
Those were just battery-powered $50 ones from Radio Shack, though. I have to spend $400 for this thing (including fuel and some extra widgets).
It'll go at least 55 MPH, too

Finally got it!
50 MPH turns out to be rather fast for something this small! Start at one end of a football field, punch the throttle, and it's at the other end of the field before I've figured out which way I want to turn it.
Luckily the goalpost was a foot more to the left, so I missed it

Watch out the gas powerd ones need alot of matenents from what I hear. But when I was little my freinds dad built them, he made a bat man car that went 70 MPH. Needless to say after 2 days I ran it into a curb and it pretty much disentigrated.

This one is powered by nitromethane, but yeah they do take a fair bit of maintenance - mostly keeping it clean, the parts all oiled, and the engine running properly in-tune (at 35,000 RPM things can get pretty nasty if everything isn't in the right place).
I'm sure things have come a long way since your friend's dad was building them. Most of these style cars/trucks/buggies come fully pre-built so there's not nearly as much work to put into them as he would have done.

I'm still doing the break in right now, as per the instructions.
Yeah it's a 3.5 engine, the OFNA "Force .26" - http://www.ofna.com/eng-force-26.html

Finally got it tuned and running good! Temp stays between 220 and 280 F now.
Despite being 4WD it still does great donuts in the dirt! Also gets dirty as a french whore

I even got to race a guy down the street - me with the LX Comp and him riding a little 50cc mini-bike

Get a second one, tuned to to the same frequency and code. Beef up the suspension and the tires and strap 'em to your sneakers.
