    #5525379 - 04/17/06 03:01 PM (17 years, 9 months ago)

Hey guys i recently got a casing colonizing and i got 1 poo tub colonizing...i peek at the one which the casing layer is colonizing 1 time a day to see where its at so i dont get overlay and i know what time to fruit it...but could peaking at it initiate pinning even thought its in the incubator?Help much appreciated..I always wondered about this

I am not completely sure but I believe that light is only a small part of the fruiting triggers I think FAE is much bigger

Just taking a peak is not gona hurt. How else you going to learn.Need to leave in light a good while to start pinning. Just remember the more you look the more contam's have a chance to enter.

Most of the myc should be under the surface so peeking should be alright if any myc is showing just lightly patch and mist then place in the FC when the time is right which is normally soon.

When incubating you should have or at least I have saran loosely covering the trays also peeking means peeking not removing the FC's lid or overexposing the casings from excessive examinations. Trich can be anywhere anytime use your heads! Peeking is the only way your going to get a visual and take appropriate action. GL guys

I lift up the tin foil or trash bag and peek at my casings pretty much everyday, right from the time I spawn until I fruit. I just can't help myself LOL.

It has never really been a problem for me. Actually the only contam problem I have had using horse poo so far was one casing that I basically suffocated by stacking another tub on top of it, It got cow web. And then I kinda went a little crazy with the H202 and poking my unwashed fingers into the substrate to see how fully colonized it was LOL, anyways I got a little spot of green which I cut out and doesn't seem to be coming back because the rest is now fully colonized.

WBS is a slower colonizing substrate believe me I've done a ton well maybe not quite but my share anyway. The reason it's a slower colonizer is because of the minute grain (millet) size as well as the difference in moisture content as opposed to other grains, remember myc thrives in very moist conditions.
