I have had some problem with casing and I think I have it figured out. I made a sterlite terarium, with a pexiglass window in the lid, and a pexiglass drip gaurd. There is a layer of perlite (1 in thick) on the bottom which I wet down with a 1:10 H2O2 water mix. The casing itself is in aluminum pans on top of the perlite. The question is concerning the casing itself. About a 2 weeks ago i tryed to case on the bare bottom of the sterlite bin and I think this was a mistake because the lack of relitive humidity and the fact that the soil was wet and compact. Since I did not notice any growth at all and it strted smelling like shit, I made the above settup let the soil air out, spayed it with the H2O2 water and transfered the soil from the bin into the aluminium pans. Is the myclelium still alive or did I kill it? Does anyone have any suggestions on my present setup? I plan to attain an aquarium bubbler soon, will that take the place of the perlite or do I need both? I am trying my hardest to learn, please help!

Well did you notice when you were cutting it up if you still had mycelim in the casing material? Did it still smell mushroomy ? Or did it smell sour? If it was really wet, you could have killed it, or really hurt it. By drying it out, it might have hurt it as well. You should really just put the casings back into incubation until they get colonized again, apply a very thin layer of casing on the top, and THEN put it back into your fruiting chamber. If you sprayed a lot of h202 on there as well, it could have beaten the mycelium back a little bit as well.

When I was cutting the casing up I could not tell if there was any mycelium still left in the casing, there were brown chunks not white, it smelled very shroomy. I have already started incubating again at 85 degrees. Is that the right temp for my state of growth? Is that the general rule, when going back to incubation from mistakes made at 75 degrees set the temp back up and go from there?
