1 cup = 1/2 pint

if you are unsure of the size take a cup of water and pour it into the substutute jar. Drinking glasses work fine. A double layer of tin foil should be put on the top, and, one should be taken off and replaced when innoculating.

you can also try out filter patch bags instead of the glass jars
