Well I'm using a regular pf jar with one 1/2 inch hole with polyfil and one needle size hole and a syringe stuck inside glued with silicon. the syringe itself is filled with polyfill for more gas exchange, it also use to inoculate or sucking out the LC when its done. about the ratio i use 2/3 tea spoon of honey in 250 cc of water. i PCing it for 20 min at about 5-10 PSI (its enough). Till now i have a great success

4/96 is the right ratio, but I've found it to be pretty forgiving and I always eyeball it myself. When you say "sugars" keep in mind not all sugars are the same, stick to something commonly used like karo or honey, as refined white table sugar isn't gonna work. I also do just fine with a half-hour boil, no PC needed.
If you're having trouble check your water source. Tap water is a good way to make your LC fail. Spring or distilled is best.
For a lid, I use a regular half pinter with a single hole punched and a piece of electrical tape. Sure its sealed and there's no gas exchange, never been a problem. Peel it back quick to inoculate and again to draw syringes, only precaution is to do it in a clean work area (wipe down surface, spray a bit of oust in the vicinity of the jar, let settle and go) never had a contam. It stays sealed well enough that I can shake the crap out of the jar without leaking (and I shake once or twice a day). I don't understand all the fancy lid set-ups people go through for LC, as this is about as simple as you can get it and it works just fine...

yeah maybe simple is best, thanks for the input, i been reading if u only fill your LC jar half full, then not so much problem in FAE. no holes or wet filter = less contams. My dog just knocked one up with 2 small holes in half pint jar, tyvek underneath lid, tvyek on top ov lid with elastic band holing in place, then aloose layer of foil, i got shards of glasss in the bottom for the stirring, gonna stir slowly as not to wet the tyvek......we c how she fairs soon peace<>
